Wow. That makes sense.
I don't have any insight to add.
a guess = Repole would be fine with pointing to the Belmont or if not, maybe a re-group then map to Travers?
also a guess - I think Forte is fine regarding his health. It may have had added pressure due to the Saffie disaster, and Forte's social media misstep(s)

Well , with a quick look at who’s entering . Mage has a good shot at winning again. No Forte, no Two Phil’s, No Angel of Empire. They call this the Triple Crown still . Gotta love it .

Yeah - my opinion in Post #1 is under serious reconsideration.
Looks like Disarm and Confidence Game will be the only other Derby runners in the field.
Desormeaux sat CG down after the Rebel, saying he needs time between races, and then wheels him back in 2wks? I wonder if he's going to run.
As it looks now, Mage may waltz into New York with a chance at the Triple Crown.

The Preakness Future bet was nearly all Derby entrants
Where's that pic of a kid throwing cash out a window?

I like Blazing Sevens here, initially. Obviously post draw and field not set etc. But coming out of a key race, fresh, against a beatable favorite. Chad Brown has a record of skipping Derby and sniping Preakness. Should be fun.

Terrified of national treasure.
His Santa Anita derby really wasn’t bad. Did his best running late.
Baffert has spoken highly of this horse in the past and gets it back. I think he moves forward off his last race. May not win, but I think he’s live
Rooting for mage all the way though

I missed he had the Buckpasser X, and if I had discovered that, might have placed more money on him to win. Sometimes, I get stuck on Rule 1 as religion, but at least, I don’t rely on it as the first and last word in my handicapping. Had he run up the track, I would have thought lesser of him, but you don’t toss a nice second place finish after being overtaken. Since, he is the Derby winner, I must respect him and include him in my wagers for the Preakness. I’ll see what the rules for Preakness discovers. Nonetheless, it makes for interesting talk. This is why I love this sport so much. Everyone gets a fair shake in the next leg, even the Japanese horse. Now, that his hoofs have hit US ground, he get another chance if he runs. Everything before the derby has a line through it. Tabula Rasa. Good luck in the Preakness.

Smarter than I was, I tossed him. I hate it win I have software that picks the winner and wasn't on my radar.

Has there ever been less the two Derby runners in the Preakness in recent history?

Desormeaux had stated one of the reasons he gave him the long break was so that he could have the potential of running him on short rest in the TC races. He was pointing to the series, rather than just the Derby.

Fair Odds for the projected Preakness field *-New entry not above
Please note: I'm horrible at making lines so take these with a grain of salt
Mage 9/5

National Treasure 9/2
Red Route One 10-1
Henry Q* 11-1
Blazing Sevens 12-1
Confidence Game 15-1
First Mission 15-1
Arabian Lion* 15-1
Il Miracolo* 20-1
Chase The Chaos 25-1
Perform 30-1

Just saw on the Paulick Report that Confidence Game is no longer being pointed to the Preakness because he's "not 100%".

Maybe the new age Triple Crown is harder than ever before?
With top end horses that struggle to run 5 to 6 times a year; running 3 times in 5 weeks seems to be an insurmountable goal to achieve. Especially with a growing 3YO. And then add in the 'trail' before the Triple Crown begins.
Not only do you have to take on 19 (ok, 17 this year) foes in the biggest field of the year for any North American horse to conquer, in 2 weeks you then face 7 to 10 'new shooters' that are fresh and ready. And then 3 weeks later take on the best of those who couldn't beat you in the KY Derby along with others with a full on plan of running in the Belmont.
All that with horses that connections nowadays claim can't run more than once a month, if not every other month.
