Credit to Spalding No. whether I agree with him or not, he discussed something he disagreed with, and kept it civil.
I assume that he understood that my opinion was that Tapit Trice's style made him a toss from contention from Derby win&exacta tickets, and that Angel of Empire's price made him a reluctant include in exactas because of an underlayed price, while being one of the four or five good horses in the race along with Verifying whom I felt was a better value of the two.
I was wrong. Verifying got a break when Derma Sotogake didn't attend the pace, and then regardless of how you thought the pace shaped up, Verifying should have buried Kingsbarns and Reincarnate if he was one of the four best horses. Two Phils ran a good race, and Mage ran big. Some years Angel of Empire would have contended for the win, and Verifying was nowhere near win-contention. It wasn't even close enough for a price comparison.
