Prado

It appears that Edgar Prado has come back from Florida a different jockey than what I remember before he left. He had 5 winners yesterday. Way to go Edgar. I didn't play Aqueduct much yesterday so I didn't capitalize from it. I wonder if all his mounts are gonna start getting bet down to even money now?

some people pound endlessly on edgar, but in my opinion he's one of the best riders out there. i'm a md guy, and we have been lucky to have two of the best and classiest jocks in the past 30 years get their start in our state. in my opinion you know you'll get a good ride whenever you saw prado and chris mccarron on your horse.

Edgar

As I posted before, Edgar is the real deal, but no matter how good you
are, you need to have a horse ready and competitive in any race
to demonstrate your ability.
Hopefully he starts to get those mounts as it is truly boring to watch almost
any R.Dominguez mount going off at 3-5..

I agree. Ramone is a great rider but it is obvious that there is a big portion of the betting public that play him and not the horse he's on.

Physically he's obviously not the rider he used to be. His seat is not quite the same and he's not quite as insync in the drive as he was a few years back, but the jock is such an over rated factor anyway. It's been proven time and again that most jocks can win with the right horse. Nakatani struggled in So Cal , goes to Oaklawn and suddenly he's a better rider. E.T.Baird never used to win races goes back to the Mid west and he's a 20 percent rider at Arlington. David Cohen, Chris Landeros are other examples. I mean really , is there a worse looking rider than Joy Scott and she dominates those Arabian races.

Is it true - no Derby horse for Prado?

I believe Edgar Prado is no longer a top jockey. Does that mean he cannot win races. Absolutely not. It just means with age,his skills are not what they once were.
Mike Smith is riding one of the best horses in the country and his skills have been on the decline for many years. I still wince at the thought of Smith trying to ride the inner track at Aqueduct a few years ago.
In my opinion, John Velasquez's skills are also on the decline, but if you get good horses you will still win races.

I'd compare Prado at this stage of his career to Jose Santos around the same age. Not getting the top mounts in every big race, but still more than capable of outriding anyone in a big spot.
