2014 PAIHL Sign-In and Rules and Acknowledgement Thread

2014 PaceAdvantage Inter-Board Handicapping League Sign-In and Rules Acknowledgement

Welcome fellow contest players!

Please use this thread to:
(a) Sign in below as a team or individual
(b) Post any questions below regarding the rules
(c) Acknowledge the Rules (not below, but in the above poll)

Note: The following are a consensus of the Contest Management team.

RULES:

1. TEAMS

-- Each team consists of three individual players.
-- An individual may only compete on one team in the league and only participate with one PaceAdvantage identity. Failure to comply with this rule will result in disqualification of the player and his team(s).
-- Each player must be a registered member of PaceAdvantage.com
-- Each player must have a unique ISP address.
-- Teams may represent other handicapping forums; handicapping products; race tracks; or simply be a group of three individual handicappers.

2. REGISTRATION

-- Teams can register as a full or partial group of 3 players.
-- Individuals can register as "free agents" so as to make their availability known. If not contacted to fill out an existing team, free agents should take the initiative to contact and form a team with other free agents.
-- ALL players must vote individually in the above poll in the affirmative.
-- Registration will close on Tuesday, 12/31 at midnight Eastern Time, unless extended by the Moderators.

3. SCHEDULE

-- Regular season league games will take place each Saturday from 01/04 thru 04/05 (14 games total)
-- The league will enjoy a rest day on Saturday, 04/12
-- Playoffs will take place over 4 days.....04/19, 04/26, 05/02 (Friday) with Churchill Downs races, and 05/03 with Churchill Downs races.
-- Each league game will consist of 8 North American thoroughbred races as selected by the Schedule Master.
-- Only races with Free Brisnet PPs will be considered except for the final two contest games with Churchill Downs races.
-- The Master Scheduler will do their best to post each week's contest races as early as possible on Thursday evening.

4. METHOD OF PLAY

-- Each team posts 3 primary selections per race in order of preference, along with a 1st alternate and 2nd alternate.
-- Alternate selections are used only if one or more of the original selections are scratched.
-- In the event of any scratches, the relative order of the original selections will be preserved. Example: Your original primary and alternate selections in order are 7,3,4 (8,1). If the #3 is scratched, your revised order of selections becomes 7,4,8.
-- Scoring is based on Win/Place/Show and Exacta payouts using a team's top three selections that remain in the race.
-- A team may opt to post only 2 selections per race (instead of 3) in an attempt to secure double credit. NOTE: Should the top selection in a 2-Horse selection option be scratched, the revised selection will automatically become a 3-Horse selection option. Example: 8,8,4 (1,3) with the #8 scratching becomes 4,1,3.
-- Coupled entries are treated just like at the track. All parts of the entry must to be scratched before one of your alternate selections come into play.

5. SCORING

-- Teams will receive multiple credit of the $2 payouts for having the one or more of their top-3 selections finish in the money and/or contain the exacta. Credit shall be as follows:

Using the 3-Horse selection option:

Top selection --> Credited with $6 across-the-board
2nd selection --> Credited with $4 across-the-board
3rd selection --> Credited with $2 across-the-board

The exacta is credited with a $3 exacta.

Using the 2-Horse selection option (Example 3,3,7):

The #3 --> Credited with $10 across-the-board
The #7 --> Credited with $2 across-the-board

If the exact comes in 3-7, the player is credited with a $12 exacta.
If the exact comes in 7-3, the player is credited with a $6 exacta

6. POSTING

-- One member of each team is responsible for posting that team's selections each week. (It does not have to be the same person each week, however, in the event of multiple postings, the first posting will be considered the team's official selections.).
-- ALL selections must be contained within a single posting and be posted at least one minute prior to the off time of the first contest race. (Players are responsible for the accuracy of their time-stamp.). Late postings will be scored $0 for each race missed. Two suggestions:
(a) Before clicking the "SUBMIT" button, click the "PREVIEW POST" button to review your selections.
(b) If it looks like you might miss the first contest race, DO NOT hurry up and submit selections for only the 1st contest race. Trust us in saying that only very bad things will happen with regard to scoring your team that week. Instead, take the time required to get all of your selections posted in a single posting, even if it means missing a race or two.
-- A late posting will only be scored on races that run a minute after the post.
-- While teams are allow only one selection posting, subject posting may be edited within the brief time as allowed by the PaceAdvantage forum application, as long as the "edit" time stamp is at least 1 minute prior to the contest race off time. After that, no other alterations are allowed after that first post.

7. POINTS

·- All teams compete against each other in each regular season game and receive one point for each team they beat, and a half a point for teams they tie.

8. PLAYOFFS / FINAL ROUNDS

-- At the completion of the regular season, teams finishing in the top half of the field (including ties and rounding up, but limited to a maximum of 16 teams) will compete for the main contest prizes. Subject teams will be known as Group A.
-- All teams not making the above field will be known as Group B, who will complete among themselves the same 4 weeks as Group A teams for yet to be announced prizes.
-- All teams will be allowed to participate the entire contest with the following exception. Any team who becomes a no-show during the final week of the REGULAR season, regardless of their standing, will be automated eliminated from further participation. (NOTE: Their total accumulated points will still remain in effect only for determination of which teams qualify for which group and determination of any bonus points.).
-- To reward regular season performance, the top 8 teams in both Group A and Group B will receive bonus points to begin their final 4-day contest play. Bonus points will be equal the number of teams in your group that you beat times 50%. Example: In Group A with 16 teams, the top seed gets 15 x 0.50 = 7.5 bonus points. The second seed gets 14 x 0.50 = 7.0, ..... The eighth seed gets 8 x 0.50 = 4.0. An exception will be made with Group B teams, where the bonus will be the number of teams beaten (maximum of 15) x 50%.

9. SPIRIT OF THE GAME

-- As this is a Free Entry contest, should for any reason a situation arise where the rules don't specifically address the issue, a ruling "in the spirit of the game" shall be made by the Contest Management Team, in the best interest of all competitors.
-- Inappropriate conduct by any player will not be tolerated. If a player behaves in a manner deemed inappropriate he/she shall forfeit their claim to any prizes. The discretion of the Contest Management Team shall be final.

Good luck and skill to everyone!

Rules posted and registration opened on 12/10/2013.
The number of teams to be assigned to group A and group B to be determined after 01/05/2014.

I read the first rule/sub-item under Item 2 (Registration) above as: "Teams can register as a full or partial group of three players." Is that correct? (The letters came out in the Greek alphabet (or should that be alpha beta? ) -- on my computer, at least.)

Greek alphabet....that's strange Tim!

Yes, you read correctly.

Folks who plan to put a team in can indicate so even if they are currently not sure who one or both of the other team members will be.
