Baltas Accused of Multiple Banned Substance Infractions

Quote:
The California Horse Racing Board formally issued a regulatory complaint June 21 against trainer Richard Baltas, a month and a half after track operator 1/ST Racing began prohibiting him from racing or breezing horses at Santa Anita Park and other 1/ST Racing tracks pending an investigation. Over the past month and a half, many horses from his California barn have been dispersed to other trainers.

A complaint differs from a stewards' ruling in that it is an alleged violation that has not been adjudicated.

In the complaint, the board stated between April 15 and May 8, 23 of Baltas' horses were captured on surveillance video being administered Higenamine and Paeonol by members of Baltas' staff. He is expected to appear before the board of stewards July 1 at Los Alamitos.

Imho, can't run most of these horses without supplements. It's a myth that we can have horse racing without meds.

The BIG LIE about https://www.hisaus.org/ is that it's about the gambler. The proponents repeatedly say "people need to trust our product". But imho, it's got nothing to do with the betting product.

Hissa is about the non-gambler. It is horse lovers who want to control how the animal is handled. Nothing to do with the betting.

Have not heard of the other substance ( Paeonol ), and a brief google didn't score much info. Seems to possibly a NMDA? drug, which may put it in relation to Ketamine? Ketamine and these classes of drugs have come up in horse racing, but I don't understand them. Can recall at least one Ketamine bad test blamed on drug use of stable worker. They seem related to travel/surgical/sedation rather than Performance Enhancing. Sometimes the effects have a range or duration in the opposite direction. Hopefully nothing with Performance Inhibiting.

Also, the article(s) read as though it was surveillance discovery ( rather than an initial bad test ). Can only guess if this was a big surveillance day, or they drew his name out of a hat, or a targeted investigation.

I remember when this guy couldnt win with any horse then suddenly one of top trainers in the on the circuit. I am sure improved stock helped but it was a sudden transformation.

I dont like how this is just behind closed doors and not out in the open, these bans with no real process is sketchy.
