Past Performances 1960's
Just a question that someone may have an answer. Why can you not get the past performances for horses that raced in the 1960's and 1970's?
Did the DRF lose these statistics?

Our DRF columnist tells me that data is not accessible past 1975.

I would assume it's a question of digitization, i.e. nobody wanted to pay to do it.

THe DRF columnist that you spoke with doesn't know what he talking about!
Although a long ways to go, there are two months of 1963 & 1967 already recorded. You can see the whole past DRF here:

I watched as he put in his password trying to access a Fager chart for me and he got the same error result he gets all the time when going past 1975.....
Now this is THEIR OFFICIAL DATABASE which is on line for all the DRF employees......Let's see who should I believe, My own eyes or an extraneous reference??? Tough one

http://kdl.kyvl.org/drf/ Yes, and also...
All DRF records from that time has been turned over to the Keeneland Library for safe keeping.

The Keeneland Library has the largest collection known for DRF records, over 3,000 volumes.

For quite some the DRF has been running ads asking readers for help in finding old editions. Do find it rather odd that those editions were not archived. I would like to look at a few old chart books from bygone eras, it would bring back many memories.

That cannot be true because I have data that go back 60 years.

To all who have replied, thanks for the information. It is a mystery to me however why they wouldn't have those records. In 1970 I called and asked about buying some complete past performances of a certain horse and was tod it would be a $10.00 charge. That was when they were based in Phoenix.
It would be interesting to know from the DRF rep. how they now don't have those records. At that time they were probably on micro-fiche.

All They had was just class charts. What if we had Beyer Charts in 1950 and didn't tell anyone ? . We could have made a zillion dollars. The crowd was so stupid. They would have some blind favorite 7 to 5 and there were 14 to 1's. That if they had Beyers, would have been 3 to 1. And we got . 14 to 1 on them. Damn. How was handicapping even done in the dinosaur days?

i'd love to see lifetime pp's fro a few hosses, one in particular was a hoss name of Blood Doctor. If this hoss drew the rail, he was long gone. I'd like to see how sharp the old memory is, cause the short term ain't what it used to be.

Only about 1 in 4 people bought a racing form. Tips were bet down, so were program horses.
My father did his own track variants starting in the 60's and needless to say he had a huge edge.
Speed ratings against the track record and an archaic track variant that bunched all the races run that day regardless of differential from distance to distance was all that was visibly available to the handicapper.
Beyer figs didn't hit the form until 1989 or 1990 I believe.
Now, with the dumb money gone to slots and lotteries, and track variant adjusted speed figures available to everyone, and a higher collective track takeout, the question is, how can you make money today?
