No doubt about it I spent every summer in 70s and 80s there, Mickey Solomone was the king then, but the racing there these days is a big joke

I love Monmouth Park, too and agree the racing hasn't been very good later. Yesterday was very chalky in spots but the late Pick 5 did pay $2,200+ for $0.50 so wasn't all bad. You need to pick your spots there (not my strong point- I try to beat too many of these Mth favorites!). Average win price 7/21 at Monmouth was about $8.50 and was $10 at Saratoga for a roughly 20% relative difference. Late Pick 4/5 paid better at Mth.

Thanks to the poster in the Firenze Fire thread who noted that Ja Servis was on a bit of a cold streak. That plus Really Proud's dismal run in Sar 8th put me onto that longshot in Mth 10th. Nice- priced winners are few and far between for me there (sorry for the red-board).

I've tried several times to make Monmount my top track, but just can't get any decent plays there day in day out. Too much chalk to spent the time handicapping.

Since July 1, I have won 49 markets in a row at Monmouth on the Exchange (a new worlds record for me). Extremely formful racing! If you handicap the form and cant make money at Monmouth you should perhaps find another game to bet.

Are we ever going to see a bump in purses at Monmouth from the sports betting? Sure doesn't look like it.

Monmouth had HUGE purses for awhile a few years ago.
As a track, it lost ALL credibility.

5-6 claims per race, $30K horse dropping in to $5K races to grab a big purse.
It was a joke.

Big purses make for bad racing.

It was a lot better than what they have now, the same dogs running in the same races week after week. I would hope they banish claiming races someday, but if they are going to have them, full fields with zillions of droppers makes for plenty of value.

NJ has had sports betting for, what, a few weeks during baseball season? What massive amount of money do you think rolled in to immediately boost purses?

They could (with a lot of difficulty) convert to the UK way of racing.

every horse is ranked weekly.

and almost every race is a handicap.

It might take them until next year to increase purses and racing days.

one full NFL season, One superbowl, one march madness.

Agreed, its tough to get prices on individual races, but it was one of the most enjoyable tracks I have ever visited, given limited Northeast exposure. And I did make money. Instead of playing $2 Ex Box, or Wheels I played the chalk in $20.00 exactas very narrow. Heck, on vacation might as well... Maybe I just got lucky.

Wonderful place to visit, try to get to the beach in the morning. Incredible surf and sights.

A large percentage of those bets will be made online and none of that money goes towards the purses or anything to do with the race track. So who got the best deal here?
