Hollywood Park was dirty and needed some serious updates. The area the track was located in was pretty seedy and the customers even seedier. Dirty unkept bathrooms etc etc. They just let the place go knowing it was closing. I know there was a time where Hollywood Park was “ thee “ place to be but not 7 years ago.

well sure, it is basically in inglewood, which is the area where that truck driver nearly was beat to death after the rodney king deal. Its not a great area, in fact its a very bad area. The track was getting outdated because it was never going to continue so they put zero money into it. It was definitely nicer when it had a chance to be a racetrack.

That truck driver was beaten in South Central LA, at Forence and Normandie.
Hollywood Park was at Century and Prarie, in Inglewood, not LA.
To get from Florence and Normandie to Century and Prairie, you need to drive several miles- south past Manchester to Century, and then west past Crenshaw all the way out to Prairie.
South Central LA is poor. Inglewood is a mix of working and middle class.
They are very different places.

Hollywood Park was best experienced from far away on a TV monitor.

Several times a month I fly SEA-LAX for work. Always made time to stop @ Hollywood on the way back. Work trips just are not the same.
(sooner fly to LAX for Hollywood Park then drive to EMD)

Hollywood Park was a gem at one time. And until they closed it and to this day it was the best Training Facility in California.
It had to go though. Not enough $$$$$$$$$ to make it worth enough to stay in business.
Before they changed it used to love sitting in the Cinema Terrace.

once there never had a fear, driving there, little scary.
I took the freeway to Manchester, down to Century City I think it was. Manchester was interesting. On my first drive down, there was a guy standing on the curb, barely dressed peeing into the street, then went by a funeral home with a bunch of dudes with shower caps on.

I miss the Friday night cards. Had one of the better nights of my life playing the simulcast at Rosecroft, then realized I was leaving to the parking lot with large sums of money well after midnight in Oxen Hill. Safe to say I made it home just fine. I had never thought about it before because usually I was leaving with nothing. Loved those Friday night cards.

Absolutely nostalgic.
A bunch of crazy stuff happened to me during the Hollywood Park years but none was more nuts than after a couple of days of rain they left the race on the turf till it was (what I thought) was too late. I swear to god that they ran the race out of the chute with a rope instead of a gate. It cost me the P6 that night.
