Geaux Rocket Ride

I jumped the gun on this before, but it is official now. How very sad-- he could run.

I can't stop crying-- the injury was just too severe- Mike Smith gave GRR a chance at life when he quickly dismounted and held the horse's leg up--the best vets in the country tended to him and did everything humanly possible to save his life, but it was not to be. Rest In Peace beautiful one- you are loved by so many.

This is a tough game filled with many more lows than highs. You know you have been around it a long time when you become numb to news such as this.

We lost a couple of horses with a ton of potential this week.

Very unfortunate.

From the news releases that I skimmed, it seems the already low% surgery + recovery hopes did not go as well as hoped, either. At that point, I'm glad they did the right thing.

In the San Felipe he finished second to Practical Move who had been training and racing for 9 months. Rocket’s first work was in November. He had been training 3 1/2 months and won a maiden. Rocket finished a few lengths off Parctical Move’s new 3 year best time for 1 1/16 miles at Santa Anita. He convincingly won The Haskell. He was coming into this race perfect. It’s a shame we’ll never see what kind of talent he had.

Most definitely did.

Not a great couple of weeks leading into this BC weekend.
