The Baltimore Orioles
They deserve a thread. That is all.

Interesting preseason AL East Preview for 2023 from ESPN's Will Leitch

ORIOLES
2) Are they ready to make the leap?
You really can’t bring out this fact enough: When the Orioles called up Adley Rutschman on May 21, they were 15-24. Between then and Sept. 3, they went 56-37, one of the best records in baseball over that stretch. The Orioles ran out of gas a little down the stretch, but it’s undeniable that Rustchman has already become one of the inner-tier MLB stars and the beating heart of this team.
|
Through 107 games, Rutschman is batting .272 (currently fourth among MLB Catchers) with 14 HRs and 53 RBI.
Yeah, the Orioles do deserve their own thread.

The owner of the Orioles is Greek...so his pathetic behavior here doesn't surprise me. You wouldn't think that the owner of one of baseball's perennially worst franchises would have such a thin skin.

Peter Angelos not only blew up the Orioles, a team that people from all over used to love before he took over, but he blew up real good 2 year olds that i happened to have sold him. i had BROAD BRUSH mares that he happened to like and he bought all of their foals, and i could never believe that he went nowhere with all 4 of them.

remember back when if you came up with a stat like that it was considered good journalism?
That was great illustrative graphic for showing how big the turnaround is............

I was finally able to watch the video, whether that announcer dug up that stat or someone on the staff did, I agree, good journalism. Many teams on the improve still have their kryptonite they need to overcome if they want to win a championship. I won't Google to confirm, but a great example as an ex 49er fan was Brett Favre. He could do no wrong against San Francisco, he could throw into triple coverage deep and complete passes. Favre was like 12-2 against the 49ers. On was a loss when he was a Jet on a bad team and the other in a play-off game as a Packer where the Packers lost on a final possession the 49ers should not have had. Even when the 49ers came in with a great record and the Packers sucked Favre would beat them.
The 49ers never solved the issue with Favre, so HOFer Steve Young ended up with only one ring. The previous eras teamed finally solved the Cowboys and Joe Montana won 4 rings.
Morale of the story you have to knock down previous obstacles to win championships the Orioles are doing that, strange a guy brings it up and gets in trouble.
Currently on Fan Duel to win the Series.

The best thing this ballclub did was ridding themselves of Showalter, then getting all they could for Machado....
Successful rebuild complete..

They ignorantly didn't like the story the announcer had, so they thrust the story to the forefront so that everyone could see it? Wow! I say suspend the owner to protect himself.

Father-in-law enjoys watching the O's with his crew of seniors at the retirement home.
-For that reason, it's a small bright spot, to see them atop the AL East.
He can use all the entertainment and things to follow along that he can get.
I've travelled the continuum from obsessive player/fan to someone who now can't name one Oriole player, and hasn't watched any MLB games this year.
I'd like to catch my first game of the year on TV with ol' Barney if it can be coordinated. One nice thing about the game and the rhythm of the game (at least last I checked pre 'pitchclock' etc!..) is the cross generational accessibility.
