Cody's Wish
What a story- definitely the story line of the Breeders Cup on Saturday. It was almost a miracle the way that horse came from last to win that race. I don't think there was a dry eye in the house. Cody's Wish is really a good horse.

Would like to see him run longer, 1 1/16th or 1 1/8th

Mott is definitely pointing him towards the G1 9F Whitney at Saratoga on 8/5.
https://dailygazette.com/2023/07/07/...y-at-saratoga/
Mott said he’s “99% sure” Cody’s Wish will run in the Whitney, which would be the first start of his career racing longer than a mile and a sixteenth.

He has run 9F before. He did it in Saratoga.

The bigger question is will he point him for the Classic of he wins at 9F in a race like the Whitney?

If he wins I don't see how he couldn't be.

I'm rooting for him. With all the bad publicity our sport gets, how great would it be for the sport if this horse won the most important non-TC race of the year?

Correct. The Whitney has always been one of the most important races of the season but lately it has often been the meeting point for most of the top older horses.
In fact, from the past 8 runnings I believe at least 6 horses from each respective edition went on to be champion older male.

12 of the last 26 Whitneys have produced the champion older horse in the same year. 8 of those won the BC Classic that same year.
Curiously, there are 2 horses that won both the Whitney & BC Classic in the same year but did not win the Eclipse for older horse: Awesome Again (lost to Skip Away) & Fort Larned (lost to Wise Dan).

To be honest I thought the Whitney was a no brainer, but it appears Mott even had to think about that a bit. Maybe he knows something I don't, but the horse's early routes weren't that bad. He's a much better horse now. If he wins he'll probably try the Classic unless he really looks really shaky.

9 furlongs at Saratoga is probably the sternest test of his running style . Exactly one lap with the tight turns is a front runner and stalkers dream . And that’s what usually wins this race up here . He may have to adjust and be closer to the pace than he has been lately . Plus, with the probable contenders that show up . Tough race . Mott knows this may be a challenge and the horse has lost going over a mile . He’s as good as it gets now but at some ridiculous low price . You can go against in this spot at Saratoga . I don’t see this as being easy in any way.
