streaming video capture

Anyone know a real super-easy software, hopefully with a user guide, that could allow me to have my computer save a video playing on the screen without dealing with techicalities about Screen, Region, Window and other sizing parameters. Like the software can figure out what I what to capture? I have tried a few but they are not really intuitive and have minimal instructions.

Thanks for your help

On occasion of used this: BSR. Camtasia is probably the best but probably overkill for you and not real intuitive due to all of the features.

I should have mentioned that I use Windows Media Recorder (I think they've updated the product and renamed it) from Applian for all kinds of streaming video including live racing. I've used it for two or three years and have found it to be an excellent product. I think they have a demo version so you can try before you buy.

Thanks for the help. I tried the Applian link and their trial version works well, although I have difficulty finding the files it saved. I will now try BSR and I note that it is cheaper.

Just thought I'd let you know that the recorder at Applian is the same price as at BSR. The higher price is if you buy the entire software suite. I actually paid $50 for my version three years ago.

It's a breeze. Click tools, settings. The first listing shows where they're being saved.

It is BY FAR the best one out there. It will capture all types of media though when you capture Flash the file will be grande.

Thanks for all the help. I have tried all the referenced software and find they pretty much all work. They all lack detailed, user-guide, step-by-step instructions and there are sound problems galore but that should be fixable

Thought there might be interest on how I resolved the issue. After some time I discovered that Applian did have a detailed, step-by-step User Guide as well as excellent video tutorials. I was also able to fix the no sound problem. They do offer a Suite at a higher price but I find the basic $39.95 Media Catcher works fine. Idiot-proof indeed.
