Did we?

Then why wasn't the COMFORT ship used? Why wasn't the Javits center used more than it was? Why were all those "tent hospitals" built and went unused? A total waste of money?

After all..."bodies piling up in body bags in refrig trucks in Elmhurt...."

What was that? A 10 min thing?

To a large extent I was right. In NY/NJ etc. we crushed it.
I told you we did defeat the virus in the northeast by lockdowns. But it was way too early to claim we "crushed" it in the rest of the country based on previous pandemlics and epidemiological studies.
Quote:
During the Mar/Apr peak there were literally millions of cases that never got reported. There was even a backlog of "probable" deaths that they are reporting now, but that occurred weeks ago which is inflating the current death numbers.

Since then we've improved the quality of testing, increased the number of tests by 7-10 times, hired huge numbers of contact tracers, and accumulated data on positives that we can use to trace families, friends, hot neighborhoods and zip codes etc..

So we are finding WAY more cases as a percentage of all cases out there, but there isn't a huge increase in cases relative that initial period. The growth rate and number of active cases is LOWER.
Positivity rates, increases in hospitalizations, and increases in fatalities show and will continue to show the increase in daily cases, are not artifacts of increased testing in any way.
Quote:
What looks like a huge increase is actually an uptick in several states that were locked down BEFORE they were even close to the 15%-25% infection rate you need to start turning things around with some mild social distancing and more/ better testing. Now those states are accumulating cases. In 4-6 weeks they'll be done and maybe it will move to other suburbs or rural states. But what's going on now is nothing close to what was going on in Mar/Apr. We just could't measure it well back then and the media is too corrupt or incompetent to understand that.
I don't follow your unclear reasoning, but do hope you are right

So you have expanded your preposterous cosmic conspiracy. to include staged pictures of the dead and refrigerated morgue trucks? Sort of like the fake moon landings shot on a Burbank movie set?

https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/26/us/ma...ork/index.html

Refrigerated trailers are in place as workers build a makeshift morgue outside Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan to handle an expected surge in coronavirus victims.

At least 13 patients had died from Covid-19 over a 24-hour period this week at Elmhurst Hospital in Queens -- where the medical examiner's office stationed a refrigerated trailer, according to agency spokeswoman Aja Worthy-Davis
Trailers and white tents were also set up outside New York Bellevue Hospital Center, which is adjacent to the medical examiner's building.

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/insi...ry?id=69804681

....One nurse who has worked at Elmhurst for over a decade, who previously dealt with multiple disease outbreaks and a hurricane, told ABC News, "I’ve never seen anything like this." She described the emergency room as "absolute chaos. The facility is overwhelmed." Another doctor said, "We’re running out of stretchers. We need chairs."

At one point, the hospital even came close to running out of oxygen, according to one emergency care physician. When asked by ABC News what they needed most, he said, "ventilators, critical care staff, and space" – in that order.
.................................................. ................................

The point being Elmhurst was overwhelmed with more deaths that it could handle in the hospital morgue.

Ever remember the seasonal flu doing this?

why are there 5 refrigerated trailers there? are they holding the 30000 ventilators for Cuomo?

was this all a NY scam to bill federal government for Medicaid expenses and not use their specially made facilities?

So you say the Wuhan flu has skipped by 3rd world countries early on. Uh huh

Some of China's neighboring countries land cities like Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand successfully pe-empted the flu before it got hold.
Went to Europe next and then here because of international travel. It is now seriously affecting South and Central America, Russia, India and Pakistan and impoverished areas of Africa.

As I said we are only 7 months into it. The Spanish Flu lasted a few years and the 1968-1969 Hong Kong Flu lasted 18 months. It is a novel virus without any immunity as of yet. All impoverished counties and areas with impoverished health care systems may experience a hell of a lot more than Elmhurst hospital did.

Unless you are as paranoid as others here, and think it is all a plot to make your moron look bad.

All these were precautionary measures to deal with the possibility of another nightmare like Elmhurst happening again. Patients could not be transferred to any of these temp sites, since they were instituted...until right after body bags collected at Elmhurst

I gave you a definition of conspiracy theory:
Quote:
A conspiracy theory is an explanation for an event or situation that invokes a conspiracy by sinister and powerful groups, often political in motivation, when other explanations are more probable.
1)-March 25, several news outlets reported the hospital was at its "breaking point" after 13 patients died within a 24-hour period

2)-U.S. Navy Hospital Ship Comfort Ship Arrives in New York City
March 30, 2020

3)-New York’s Javits Center completes transformation into 1,200 bed emergency hospital
March 30, 2020

4)-Central Park will be the site of a new hospital for coronavirus patients
The site has 14 tents and 68 hospital beds.

Shalking hands is no longer acceptable.
The new normal is to bump elbows.
So, if anyone runs in to hcap on the street, PLEASE, do NOT offer your hand to him.
Offer him a nice ELBOW instead!

Keep lobbying for unwise unchecked re-openings, your moron's disease spreader rallies and events, and not wearing masks, and you will get your wish

The R0 number is irrelevant nationwide, because local actions influence that number.

Local conditions dominate all effective R₀. A book number really won't tell you much at all.

Case in point: R₀ for the Ebola that circulated in West Africa in 2014 was 1.51 to 2.53.

But absolutely everything that went into the estimation of that number was from West African cases, in West African social conditions.

IF that number had been calculated in elsewhere, it probably wouldn't have broken 1.2. Because we don't invite 500 people to somebody's funeral, where nearly all the guests have had close/hands-on physical contact with the deceased.

Density is important, too. R0 in densely populated areas is going to be higher, as will infection rates.

Apologies if this link has been posted before, since I haven't gone through all 6,117 posts .

Anyway, this is an interesting graphical look at pandemics from several different numerical perspectives: https://www.visualcapitalist.com/his...ics-deadliest/

Those here who like charts and pictures will love it!

This is good almost real-time info from the CDC concerning hospital beds and capacity. More charts too! https://www.cdc.gov/nhsn/covid19/rep...nt-impact.html
