To a large extent I was right. In NY/NJ etc. we crushed it.

I told you we did defeat the virus in the northeast by lockdowns. But it was way too early to claim we "crushed" it in the rest of the country based on previous pandemlics and epidemiological studies.

During the Mar/Apr peak there were literally millions of cases that never got reported. There was even a backlog of "probable" deaths that they are reporting now, but that occurred weeks ago which is inflating the current death numbers.

Since then we've improved the quality of testing, increased the number of tests by 7-10 times, hired huge numbers of contact tracers, and accumulated data on positives that we can use to trace families, friends, hot neighborhoods and zip codes etc..

So we are finding WAY more cases as a percentage of all cases out there, but there isn't a huge increase in cases relative that initial period. The growth rate and number of active cases is LOWER.

Positivity rates, increases in hospitalizations, and increases in fatalities show and will continue to show the increase in daily cases, are not artifacts of increased testing in any way.

What looks like a huge increase is actually an uptick in several states that were locked down BEFORE they were even close to the 15%-25% infection rate you need to start turning things around with some mild social distancing and more/ better testing. Now those states are accumulating cases. In 4-6 weeks they'll be done and maybe it will move to other suburbs or rural states. But what's going on now is nothing close to what was going on in Mar/Apr. We just could't measure it well back then and the media is too corrupt or incompetent to understand that.

All impoverished counties and areas with impoverished health care systems may experience a hell of a lot more than Elmhurst hospital did.

All these were precautionary measures to deal with the possibility of another nightmare like Elmhurst happening again. Patients could not be transferred to any of these temp sites, since they were instituted...until right after body bags collected at Elmhurst

The R0 number is irrelevant nationwide, because local actions influence that number.

Local conditions dominate all effective R₀. A book number really won't tell you much at all.

Case in point: R₀ for the Ebola that circulated in West Africa in 2014 was 1.51 to 2.53.

But absolutely everything that went into the estimation of that number was from West African cases, in West African social conditions.

IF that number had been calculated in elsewhere, it probably wouldn't have broken 1.2. Because we don't invite 500 people to somebody's funeral, where nearly all the guests have had close/hands-on physical contact with the deceased.

Density is important, too. R0 in densely populated areas is going to be higher, as will infection rates.
