Did TrifectaMike pass? I haven't seen posts from him in a good while and he is not available through PM.
way off on my thinking and over the top

Of course I don't. You give absolutely no explanation. How could I get it? What's to get?

Handicapping

It used to take me hours to handicap
races by pen and paper. I've automated
my handicapping now and it only takes
me 13 minutes to do a race, which includes
actual odds.

The software is available now to help
you do this. I download DRF Formulator
and can quickly process all the data
for a race.

How do you you download the Formulator files?
I used to DL the old F4 exports, but can't find an export function in current version.

Thanks

I'm new to this sport - what are some of the things you consider when diving into a race? Do you look at their historical performances or their training leading up to the race etc...?

Approach the races with consistency and adapt as you learn. For a long time, my mistake was diving into a different aspect of racing on every race. Never abandon what you have learned. Just expand your knowledge.

After you get a little experience, try posting: Handicap this race, on Pace Advantage, and tell how you're sizing up the race. IMO, that has been one of fun things to do here on this site. Usually, you'll get a fair amount of participation and other members showing or telling you how they see the race. It has always been positive feedback when I've done that. Do it before the race, so members have time to respond.

I'd suggest making the thread subject as specific as possible, e.g.:

Handicap this race: AQU 12-3 Race 7

or something to that effect.

has anybody tracked how higher price faves overall perform verses odds on faves in terms of R.O.I.______?

betting blindly on faves will lose less than the takeout - correct____?

how much less________?

I've always felt that by selecting just the most deserving faves - when you concur with the public that the horse should be the fave - might be a way towards profitability

not saying that I've been able to do that - but I haven't really tried

of course the odds have to be considered

but maybe, if instead of betting 6 faves on a card, a bettor forced himself to just choose just one - the one that he considered to be the most deserving fave on the card - his R.O.I. would improve

or if that's too boring bet much more on the most deserving fave and paltry amounts on the others

I have tracked myself on sports picks and have been profitable posting one pick per day

I know I'd get crushed if I had to post 5 picks per day

imho if a person takes this game very seriously - meaning they HAVE to win a certain amount for their finances and for their personal well being then they are traveling a very rough and rocky road

but if they take the game lightly - but still want to do well - as best they can - then the game can be very enjoyable

hello ranchwest acorn here. i used 1 as the constant for a and b. it seems pretty neat using the odds to field size ratio and the purse of todays race to horses last race as multipliers, as well as adding the sum of the field size/horses finish postion last race, with speed fig ranked according to todays field of horses.
as a pencil and paper method i would suggest only using the most competitive horses in the race and rate them, to save alot of manual number crunching.

Thanks, Acorn! I settled in on both constants as 1, too... works just fine. I think it is a great factor, so I have included it in my Quick Grid software. Much easier to let the computer do the work.
