SUPER SATURDAY!
What a day Saturday is going to be! Azeri is back and facing a VERY tough field with Island Fashion and Wild Spirit....Funny Cide is racing at Aqueduct....
But those are just the appetizers....you also have the Santa Anita Derby, the Illinois Derby, the Oaklawn Handicap and perhaps one of the best races of the day, the ASHLAND STAKES....
Folks, this is probably one of the best COMPLETE day of racing across the country I've seen in quite some time.
I can't WAIT to see Madcap Escapade face off against Halfbridled and Ashado. I hope ME blows these two away like she should...

I think going 2 turns for the 1st time in a G1 is a big deal? She's been facing some weak fields too.

Great day! Reminds me of the third saturday before BC.
Also,
Dynever returns in the 10th at SA.
Toccet is on the turf in the 3rd at SA.
Seattle Fitz is in R9 at GP.

Why in the HELL do they keep running Toccet on turf? This horse has never done JACK on turf. He should have been RETIRED races ago!

You are correct, this is going to be quite a test for Madcap Escapade. However, if she is indeed every bit the freak she appears to be (108 Beyer in 2nd career start for a 3yo FILLY!!), then she SHOULD win on Saturday.
And if she wins the Ashland with any sort of ease, she will probably be my Kentucky Derby favorite...I'm that high on her.
She was a late Triple Crown nominee you know....

Speed Figure-
Re: Toccet, I was wondering the same thing. I know that the owner is a complete megalomaniac; totally convinced that he is the BIGGEST bettor (not best) in North America. This guy made his money in telecom at the start of the Internet madness, kind of like Mark Cuban but not nearly as intelligent. At any rate, if he is convinced Toccet is a turfer that's where the horse will stay. I pity the trainer who has to deal w/a moron like that.

Ashland just lost a little of its glamour with Halfbridled out with cramping.

I think she got the cramps from reading the racing form and seeing M.E. in the race.
Really looking forward to seeing these several races this weekend. Good luck everone.
Skanoochies.

I will only watch this race today, but if this race were anywhere but Keeneland, I'd take a shot against Madcap. I hope she romps and goes to the Derby just for the oppurtunity to bet against her. I'm not saying she can't win, but winning one route race, likely wire to wire at Kee, is hardly what I would call a stellar Derby resume. Of course I'm getting ahead of myself, lets see what happens today!

I was just going to start a thread with the two fillies running against each other. Did anyone witness these 'cramps'? Maybe the track was sealed!! Go ME

Simon Bray on TVG is dissing Madcap Escapade.
Halfbridled may have tied up, but tying is an easy excuse to scratch a horse out of a salty race. So it may be an excuse not to face Madcap Escapade. Only the connections know for sure.

First time I have seen Madcap Escapade run. Impressive race by both Madcap Escapade and Ashado. Madcap Escapade rated well through some solid fractions and Ashado hung in there, but wasn't quite good enough to pass pace setter.

She's no Derby horse. Not a knock on her, just the way I see it.
