I guess it's official...No HOL Park dates in 2014
Hollywood Park will not seek dates for 2014.
More information on the BloodHorse website. It was announced at the CHRB today.

That does suck, SoCal racing is probably my favorite or second favorite. If there is not the variablity though maybe not so much. As it is not too big on Fairplex.
NoCal is already pretty much dead.

Very sad to see any track shut down, especially one with such tradition. Unfortunately, this is a sign of the times... survival of the fittest, even in the top notch racing circuits.

I think we need to discuss Vic's final call of the final race and how he's going to go about it.
He's gotta throw something in there about the end of an era, tug at our heart strings a bit.

I wonder if they will consider putting Golden Gate into the rotation in Hollywood Park's old spot and sort of consolidate the California circuits. I would much prefer that to a second tier facility getting dates just so they have enough room to stable horses. Let Golden Gate have the "California Gold Cup" and move the Cash Call Futurity to Opening day at Santa Anita.
If they try to move more racing to Fairplex or Los Alamitos, it's over in California.
To be honest Hollywood Park was a black eye for the races compared to SA and Del Mar. I know the place had a lot of history but right now is the time for the CHRB to make some moves to ensure racing's future in California.

We'll sure miss the place.
Yes, Jimmy.
We are very sad.
I met my husband, John Shear at Hollywood Park in 1964. Our son was born during this meeting in 1966.
All true racing fan who liked to go to the track live, will miss the old place, even if it was not their favorite anymore.

i was never in Hollywood, but i can understand how all the loyal fans feel about the place.
in New England, we have lost about 5 thoroughbred tracks. we might be getting one back though and maybe better than ever Rockingham Park.. i hope something like that happens in California.

Very sad day, indeed. My first trip to California was highlighted by 2 days at HP with my dad, brothers, and brothers business partner and longtime friend. Sadly, within a year after that trip, both my father and my brothers business partner were both diagnosed with cancer and passed away. Those 2 days at the track were the last really great, fun day we all had together. Lots of memories at HP.

Although I would have mixed feelings about reliance on slots, I would love to see a Suffolk-Rock circuit again.
