Wife Unit and I watched The Sand Pebbles the other night. She had never seen it; I hadn't seen it for many years, but I have always used and still use "rice bowl" when referring to a gig or a function of some sort. I have no idea how that has stuck for decades.

You'd better watch all that you want to see on that Roku channel before Roku takes it down . Apps have disappeared with no notice for copyright infringement. Seems to me that there are too many "good movies" listed on this site. Most of the free apps on Roku show movies that are in the public domain.

Is this the one with different levels and a food table?

If so the message is -> socialism works, put in your time and get a free degree, if you are the chosen one you can get an elevator ride from level 334 to the top.

That's what I was leaning to, socialism, or greed is bad. I think it was made in Spain.

How did you like it as a film?

I napped a couple times during it. It is not very high on my list of good dystopian flicks. Sometimes I wonder how stuff gets financed to be filmed. I wonder if this was a film school project.

Sometimes you see in the credits a lot of foreign movies are funded by their govts. I mean, we have hollywood ( 1000 + investors)

Watch another weird one, from Japan (subtitled), last night. Nothing different really, usual crime/fight movie. The outfits, the colors they used, and the cinematography was done very good. Guess what, excellent food in this movie too! (Whats up with that)
Looked like a very good Batman tv show. Title: DINER

If you haven’t seen Avatar on one of these fancy new HDR 4k LG televisions.........IT’S INCREDIBLE

Some scenes are like playing the PlayStation 3 ......but it’s a movie.

I thought the movie was cliche and I don’t think the allegory was very well hidden.......but this was the first time I have watched it from beginning to end. But the graphics are freaking incredible

I highly recommend Agora. It's a terrific film about Hypatia the librarian at Alexandria. It was filmed in Spain, received critical acclaim and was the highest grossing film in Spain the year it was released. However it lost a lot of money due to successful efforts by religious groups to suppress it. I think it was shown for one day in only about 10 theaters in the U.S. boxcar would probably hate it.

I missed JoJo Rabbit, but see it is on Netflix DVD so will see it next week. I also see Knives Out will be on Netflix DVD in 2 weeks.
Knives Out has 97% positive reviews; I wouldn't call that "mixed". I thought it was really entertaining.

Clark Gable owns a casino, works too much and bails out some of his clients in the racebook......and the poker table.

Saw it late night on TCM a week or so ago.
