Texas is one of the worst. They don't even allow ADW's.

I actually know two gamblers that left Texas because of this problem.

That's unfortunate... was looking forward to betting their races again.

Agree.

Really like their turf racing there, especially their sprints which typically have big fields and nice prices.

Suggested edit from my perspective: strike "follow", insert "pay for the unsustainably-exorbitant-for-a-small-track costs of implementing"

Unlike the Texas tracks, Fonner MAY be able to sustain what they do with their normally robust on-track attendance combined with the handle on IMPORTED simulcasts. Chris Kotulak repeatedly spoke about how their pandemic numbers, when they were one of the only tracks running and getting huge handle from around the country (but did not have on-track attendance), were not appreciably different from their normal numbers.

Looking forward to getting up there this season for the first time.

The Nebraska racing commission knows they cannot survive without interstate wagering. And the casinos aren't going to replace that money with higher subsidies. It'll be a death spiral. The why of it can only be ascertained by studying who benefits.

A quick calculation based on the DRF charts shows that Fonner Park handled $62,542 on Friday's opening six race card. At 20% across the board, that is $12,508 in on-track takeout.

The guaranteed Pick-5 minimum of $5,000 was taken down on opening day which drags down the wagering take to about $7,500.

Given the effort that Chris Kotulak and team put into the Fonner Park 2020 pandemic season where everyone noticed the "little track that could", the 2022 quarantine and 2023 start are just a nightmare business scenario.
