I'm pretty sure they were convinced Kav was gonna get kicked to the curb once Ford said she was going to testify...and especially AFTER they both testified, what with all the praise for her and scorn for him and his scowling, howling face and declaration of beer love.

You might be right.
Larger overall point is if 51 Republican Senators wanted to put Satan himself on the court there wasn't anything the Democrats could do about it. Best case Kavanaugh is gone... worst case they inflict as much damage against the GOP in the electorate they can.
There are some really wonky poll numbers out there right now so we will see what happens but its gonna take a week or two to stabilize. My belief is this nomination is going to hurt them pretty badly.
