Speed Figures Revisited

It's been a while since we did this.
What speed figs do you use, if any?

You can vote for more than one.

I voted for Bris & then other, the other being the Racing Digest & Thorograph, I consider the Rags as being "the sheets".

Over the years I've probably tried most listed, & while they all have merit IMO it's all about finding contenders & then running those respective numbers within them. It's all how one interperts the figures.

Last year there was a good 4 part series on Paulick's web site about figure makers, how they're made & the philosophy behind them. It covers most of the options in the poll.

I use Equibase and "enhance" them.

The older I get, the less I trust speed figures.

But I'll take TimeformUS numbers before I trust any of those other brands. The only reason I'll use BRIS is if I can't access TimeformUS for whatever reason (certain public WiFi blocks TimeformUS...or vice versa).

By Sheets/Rags I'm assuming you include Thorograph since they are also referred to as Sheets and I don't see them otherwise listed. You might want to clarify that if not.

I'm referring to both the Ragozin and T-Graph.

Thanks for clarifying that up. That's what I thought. T-Graph and Rags are both Sheete. I asked because another poster mistakenly thought T-Graph was included under Other.

To me , as long as the figures have structure and validity ...
you can make them work with a "scientific" approach....

some of you will understand what I'm saying

When you say "do you use", does that include looking for situations where the popular figures are wrong?

I like to bet against "fast" horses a lot of people will like and on "slow" horses that people will underrate if I think the figures are wrong or misleading.

So then we won't know whether people are checking figures that are right to bet on or wrong to bet against which tells us nothing about which figures people find to be the best.
