HBOs "Raced to Death" is tonight....anyone watching?

Part of me even wonders if HBO does this similar piece again if Santa Anita's mess never happened?

Janet Paton of the Lexington Herald saw it and says it wont be pleasant.Thish will be very troubling if it starts being shared....

The piece as well what makes horse racing any different than aquariums, circuses, and zoosk and there is supposedly no good counter to it....

I don't care what PETA characters say about our wonderful sport.

If everyone were like you...then our "wonderful sport" wouldn't have a single problem.

There is hardly any chatter about the episode on social media. It was a poorly written piece by Bernie Goldberg that relied mostly on 10 year old footage of Mountaineer Park instead of focusing on the SA situation as they should have.

During the 20 min. piece they showed at least 18 breakdowns, and did not use any interviews from people that did not agree with what they were trying to portray.

I have always thought this show was the real deal but this piece was absolute garbage.

What have things come to when you and I COMPLETELY agree (on anything)??
Great post.

Yeah, let's blame PETA for what is happening in horse racing.

Which is funny when PETA wasn't even mentioned or interviewed in the piece.

Was it one-sided? Yes, although after re-showing the 10 year old footage from Mountaineer about the "meat man", Goldberg at least admits that a lot of tracks have since put in policies against it. That's something, I guess.

But when Real Sports highlights the drug issues in North American racing....how the rest of the world has stricter standards, and less breakdowns...how certain elements in the industry keep opposing federal legislation that would bring America closer to those standards....what is the other side of that story?

Because to me that's the question, and I don't think racing has a good answer. Just the usual infighting, with groups like the Jockey Club saying they want to change things, but groups x y and z won't let them.

Meanwhile, listening to today's CHRB meeting, and just like last month, there's a line of activists stepping up and making public comments against the sport, asking for a ballot measure, etc.

Too many people keep assuming that this negative attention is just going to go away...it should be obvious by now that it's not. So what is the industry actually going to do about it?

I used to run some horses at MNR, but I never heard the term "meat man". I always heard the term "killer man".

I don't think they've EVER run a positive piece on racing. It's always been negative. Somebody there (Gumbel or Goldberg) has it in for racing, and always has, for whatever reason.

I hope I'm wrong and they have run positive pieces in the past and I just missed them.

I was responding to a poster who brought it up.

I have no interest in the piece, or watching it. I don't need to. I participate in U.S. racing so it's not like I don't know what is going on. At least 3/4 of it, even as an avid horse racing fan, I myself am finding it harder and harder to support. I can't even count the number of friends who have been into racing for 25-35 years, and are walking away.

Time for racing to man up and quit blaming others for their "perceptions" when they aren't glowing and positive. Maybe they aren't making it up.
