The only way this would bring more "interest" to the game is if some owner takes West up on his challenge...Maximum Security beats the other horse in a photo...and MS is disqualified again.

I am not impressed. There was a 1.5 million dollar race scheduled for this weekend if he wanted to prove anything regarding his horse.

Good for the sport . . .

From what I read in the article West did say, “I don’t care to discuss the controversy surrounding the events of the race and the disqualification of my horse at this time, but I firmly believe I have the best 3-year-old in the country and I’m willing to put my money where my mouth is.”

First, guy must have some deep, deep pockets. Second, if I owned one of the other horses, game on! It reminds me of the movie Seabiscuit where Carter challenged Riddle's blue-blood War Admiral . . . "From the grandstands to the infield, the track was jammed with fans. Trains were run from all over the country to bring fans to the race, and the estimated 40,000 at the track were joined by 40 million listening on the radio."

I like the idea and seems to me more than the money he is demonstrating, despite the Kentucky DQ, he still has a good spirit about our great sport.

I wish him well.

Seabiscuit and War Admiral both established their form through dozens of starts.

West's horse has started, what, five times or something?

He wins on grounds of due process . . .

"West will donate Maximum Security’s winnings from this challenge (if any, and up to $20 million) to the Permanently Disabled Jockey’s Fund. If no owners accept the challenge, West pledges to donate 10 percent of Maximum Security’s future lifetime racing earnings to the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund."

Must be a special person . . .

what a joke! So is MS going to be in the Belmont or not? The Travlers? Will he have the same Jockey? Now Mr. West gets to call the owners of any of the four horses chicken if they don't take his bet because he is a real man. Reminds me of when the owners of AP said he earned a "another chance" to be the first TC Winner in the BC when he lost the Travlers.
Now if he were to say the he would donate 5 mil every time any horse beats MS.... ALL of MS winnings....reminds me of all the companys that gave their hourly employees money after trumps tax cut, scraps from the table since it cost them nothing.

Gotta believe any steward involved in that decision would be not taking into account one minor factor - a guy with $20M to toss around probably has a few extra bucks left over to rub out any steward not seeing things his way....

I don't know...I kind of like it. Why are people bagging on this?

Good for him...calling the competition out and putting up the money at the same time. What's wrong with that? Good for him. It's like the old days.
