I view the Players Championship as being more prestigious than the PGA championship. It is easily the worst major

The talking heads say that.

Wannabe "truists" say that.

There are 4 Majors. The PGA is one of them.

Moving the PGA allowed them to move all of the September Fedex playoff into August.

Worst in terms of public prestige but the best field of the majors. I think the Players Championship has the best field of any tournament and certainly should be regarded as a 5th major.

Bethpage Black

Extremely difficult golf course.
Decent weather should help the scoring, but there won't be many under par.

Even if Tiger had not had his recent upturn in his game,
this event would still draw more viewers than Pimlico.
Now, it won't even be close.

Yes, they are trying to make the FedEx thing relevant, which has been a hard sell. I still dont understand what the FedEx point standings are and really dont care. This is coming from a guy who plays three times a week..
Not that I'm really looking forward to the Preakness, but I voted for it. Now that my horse drew the rail, it's even less appealing.

non-golfers have heard of the Masters, but PGA most would not know what this is.

Good change in schedule

I like the switch on the calendar.
The gap between The Masters and US Open is too long.
Having the British Open as the final leg of four works just fine.

Labelling the PGA C'ship as the inferior major is probably justified.
Looking at the list of winners this century likely proves the point.

Choice of course is crucial. Having Bethpage Black in the mix is a plus.
Everyone knows that the US Open is always going to be top notch.
Birdies and eagles are great, but no one wants to see a major winner at -20.
Making the course a challenge to the 400 yard drivers is a must.

PGA -- https://www.sportsmediawatch.com/maj...p-tiger-woods/

PGA far right column.

Preak -- https://www.sportsmediawatch.com/201...-horse-racing/

Avg'ing the past 5 years, the Preak wins with 8.7 mm viewers vs. 6.7 mm for the PGA. I assume the Preak viewership was/is a one-hour measurement period, while the PGA number is over a longer time frame. Therefore, "duration-adjusted' the PGA probably wins.
