Funny how well the Category 1 model seems to work so well in every other part of the world.

Not sure the courts have as much power in China as they have here, there is no teeth to fines and suspensions so the whole category 1 thing is a bit of a pipe dream. Suspension of a week for a derby win...which one would you take.

Not when you can get sued.

Now there's an intelligent remark!

The difference in Category 1 system, the KD winner wouldn't have DQ'd because he didn't directly foul the second place runner. As a player I much prefer that system, I don't think gamblers should be punished by a foul unless it is egregious. In the four years I have been following HK I can count on ONE hand the DQ's.
Also, isn't about time that Country House retire to stud now that they can make all that money in the shed?

As tough as it was I thought it was a good DQ, but Andy certainly has me thinking..He made some good points.
Question: I am hearing a lot about how unprecedented this DQ was. But can someone tell me when the last time there was interference from the far turn to the finish line that warranted a DQ?
I can't think of one off the top of my head. I know there was a jockey objection by Invisible Ink vs. Monarchos.

Stopped reading when Beyer said the incident only caused War of Will one length.
Glad he still plays the game if that is his typical line of reasoning.

I think the riders here are much more aggressive and would completely abuse a system like that here they get a hand slap after the fact (and here a hand slap is about all they can do.)

It only shocks me how many people think leaving Maximum Security up would have been a good idea. The total disregard for bettors who backed War of Will is disappointing.

It's worth noting that Hong Kong races on grass and polytrack, and the main racetrack there, Sha Tin, has very long straightaways and wide turns where there is lots of room to maneuver and move out without cutting anyone off. So they probably have less fouls there. (Happy Valley, the other track there, races less often, but it's a bullring, so I can imagine some more stuff goes on there. But none of the major stakes races are run there.)

It wouldn't be wise to book Beyer's racetrack wagers, IMO.

The all weather course is actually dirt, not synthetic.

Well, you got the right owner at least.
The best horse would have topped Maximum Security by 5 if given the same trip as Maximum Security.

He's not fast enough early to get that trip.
