Covfefe

Shattered the 6f track record at Pimlico today. She ran 1:07.70, previous best 1:09. And those 1:09s are old so could be anywhere between 1:09 and 1:09.19. It was a massive performance as the track is pretty quick, but older stakes females took 1:09.46 to run 6f.

I am wondering what the Beyer will come back at.

The 44 and change half mile is also unheard of at Pimlico.

When I first handicapped the race, my thoughts were she was a vulnerable favorite. When the race came, I was alive on a number of multi-race wagers and choose to just watch. All I can say is wow! Not often do I get overly impressed with a single performance, especially on a big race day because many tracks are conditioned to play lighting fast on those days but that filly today was nothing short of awesome.

One way of expressing how great this was is one of the fastest fillies I ever saw was Safely Kept. She ran at Pimlico, and went on to win the BC Sprint over colts.

And this filly's performance is better than anything Safely Kept ever did at Pimlico.

3YO filly breaks the 6F track record by more than a second.

Yowza.

Smoked Chalon by nearly 2 full seconds who ran 30 minutes earlier. Chalon is no slouch, and I doubt the track changed all that much in that amount of time.

For some perspective, the runner up would have broken the old track record and she was eight lengths behind.

Okay, I'll ask the obvious question:
Was the race timed correctly?

Never seen a track record broken by that large a margin unless it was a race in excess of 10f or a rarely run distance

Yep, you know I'd be all over it if it wasn't.

I'd just like the know the proper pronunciation of the name.

Is the 'v' silent? Ko-fay-fay? Ko-fee-fee?

Personally when I saw the name, I assumed it was a typo.

In 1991, Safely Kept won the Maryland Million Distaff at Pimlico for the 3rd consecutive year despite missing the break, grabbing a quarter, and toting 130 lbs.

It was her 23rd win and her 30th career start.

In May of Safely Kept's 3yo year, she was already busy beating older horses in graded stakes.
