A horse who often goes off as favorite but seldomly wins. Some horses just like running with their competition and don't care to have their head in front. Obviously not a total crossout but its something to consider.

I hate to see horses who run declining speed figures while dropping 2 or more levels in class.

A good horse with a big class drop following a double-digit length loss and a lay-off. They usually lose ... but not always.

Conversely, 1st time starters running without lasix.I don't like drug use but this seems to be a negative.

Plenty of trainers, connections come to US, purchase from stock that have raced on Lasix and other dope, bring those horse back to race in UK without the asisstance of Drugs.
Also, as stated, plenty of other countries race without Dope on raceday.
If that is not proof that raceday meds should be thrown in trash today, i do not know what is.

I agree that racing could do without the drugs, but to ignore them when making a wager is folly.

A jockey doing these things is aways a bad sign. Oh, you meant the horse. Sorry I just couldn't resist.

I can't say i've seen it Robert, but jockey sweating badly and misbehaving would probably be off putting too.

Regarding sweating-years ago when I actually went to the track a friend of mine had several horses with trainer Joe Broussard. I remember him (Broussard) saying if a certain runner of his wasn't sweating profusely don't bet him-he won't run good. I followed this horse for some time and damn if he wasn't right. The horse never ran well when he looked cool and collected, and did run well when sweaty-sweaty to the point that the jockey spent 1/2 the post parade scrapping foam with his whip. When it comes to sweating I think it pays to know when its a good thing or a bad thing.
