The last car I owned black 4-door 1964 Dodge Polara 313 wide block great highway cruiser. Push button Automatic.

A friend is currently refurbishing a 86 Dodge 1/2 ton for me as I'm going for a road test this Tuesday. 30 years since I last had a licence 60 now. Look out.

I had a 1971 Plymouth Duster bought new with a 225 6-cylinder that I drove in NY until 1995. When I junked it at the end, it had over 200K miles on it, the blue paint had almost completely peeled off, and the gas tank was hanging by a thread.

PS: After I junked it, I saw it on the street - somebody bought it from the junkyard and rehabbed it. The engine was indestructible!

1979 Camaro...just sold it 3 years ago..

Bought in 1990 as a V6, white wall tires and no getty-up at all for $1500. It was my everyday driver for about 6 years, including trips back and forth to college (180 miles) for about 5 years.

When the engine went, I invested in a rebuilt 350 from an El Camino and upgraded the transmission. Over time....custom wheels, bigger tires and a paint job made this car a looker....Dark maroon with black trim.

In 2010 I put a rebuilt 350 from a Vette in it, upgraded the cam and added a shift kit. It was now a weekend driver only. Deteriorating floor boards and no garage to keep it in made me have to unload it.

When I sold it, the car itself had over 345,000 miles on it...I was happy with the $5000 that it sold for....and oh yeah, I sold it to a 19 year old. Same age I was when I bought it.

Had a 72 Dodge Dart with the slant 6 225 in it. You could actually stand inside the engine compartment to work on it!!

I stopped driving in 1990 for health reasons. I wanted to stay healthy, and didn't have the discipline to exercise so I sold the car and started walking. I'm convinced I am at least 20 pounds lighter than I would be if I kept driving.

A side benefit I'd I recently read the average person spends $1500/month on transportation, I spend $110/month.

74 AMC Javelin. An ungodly large engine for a fiberglass body.

Only the hood was fiberglass and not all 74s had it. And after '71, cubic inches was kind of relative -- the AMC 401 c.i. only had 235 hp, but not bad for 1974. Compare that number with 400+ c.i. engines from 68-70.

Probably the best car I owned was a 2003 V6 Mazda 6 -- reliable, fast, and handled great. My favorite car as a kid was a '77 VW Scirocco...just a fun car. If I'm asked this question 10 years from now I am sure my answer would be my post mid-life crisis car -- a 1999 Corvette FRC which has less than 28K miles on it now.
