2014 BC Classic picture

This past weekend makes it a little clearer, or muddied the waters, depending on how you see it. The story line goes from a “showdown between Shared Belief and California Chrome” to “who’s going to go after Bayern.” The obvious candidate is Moreno, although, there’s a good chance that one will opt for the BC mile. We know that Tonalist won't.

I’ve listed these from what I believe to me most favorite to least favorite, with the results of their last race.

Shared Belief – 1st Pacific Classic
Bayern – 1st PA Derby
Itsmyluckday – 1st Woodward
California Chrome – 6th in PA Derby
Wicked Strong – 2nd Travers
Tonalist – 3rd Travers
Moreno – 2nd Woodward
V.E. Day – 1st Travers
Toast of New York – 2nd Pacific Classic
Majestic Harbor – 6th Pacific Classic
Tapiture – 2nd PA Derby
Candy Boy– 3rd PA Derby
Prayer For Relief – 3rd Woodward
Zivo – 4th Woodward

The Awesome Again stakes, this weekend, should make things even clearer, or muddy everything more. God forbid if Shared Belief comes up small.

Thoughts?
Who did I leave out?
Who should be higher/lower?

What's the status of Albano and Wildcat Red, who finished 2nd and 3rd in the Haskell to Bayern?

It will never happen, but man, I can't help but think Wise Dan would be competitive in that field.

Where's the gamble in them?
They have so little to lose.

Doesn't look like he has one for the Classic.

Magician, Ruler Of The World possible for Turf - slim possibility of Australia.
Tapestry possible for F+M Turf.

No doubt, he'll have something ready for both juvenile turf races.

He seems to be a pretty versatile campaigner, though.
That wasn't a bad run at DMR.

The horse keeps on running, although he appears one paced.
Should he take to the dirt, he could hit the board.

I think he ran at Belmont, finished off the board if I remember right.

What's the latest on Lea?
Any sign of an appearance soon?

I didn't mean to suggest that I fault them for sticking with what works, especially since Wise Dan seems to have lost a step or two from his best.

Yeah you're right about that.

This seems like the perfect year for someone to ship over from Europe and win the Classic, but it doesnt seem like there's much out there.

I never thought that you meant to.

The fact that he may have lost a step is a major reason
why they might shy away from the Classic.
Too bad, but the horse doesn't owe anything to anyone.
You never want to push too hard - even more so after injury.
However, if Wise Dan is close to 100%, he has a shot in the Classic.

He will have his work cut out to win the Mile again, too.
Especially, if Kingman ships over from England.
