Fiddleheads: people eat them?

Learned something new today: people eat these parts of a fern.

From the above wiki article, they're on the bitter side.

Any one here eaten them? What was the preparation? How did they taste to you?

fiddlehead ferns! there great. used them a few times. blanch them a bit. i think the best time is early-late speed

Never had them, but I knew they were edible from (I think) "Bizarre Foods".
Zimmern will eat just about anything, so these were not a stretch for him.

I did actually have Durian Fruit once after watching him gag on it. It's horrible. He was right. Bad feet and rotten onions. I can't believe people actually eat it.

My mom served fiddleheads regularly when I was a kid - common in Canadian Maritimes and New England - my Mom is from New Brunswick.

Once when we were in a national park she found a patch of them and picked a few. A park ranger gave her a ticket for disturbing the flora in a national park...which his supervisor tore up.

Haven't had them for a few years..reminded me of spinach. Last time I bought them I got frozen ones, but have bought them fresh too.
