No idea Andy. Maybe people are tired of the hassle of going to the track or OTB's. I used to absolutely love going to the track or OTB's now I look at it as an extra expense. I live 20 minutes from Del Mar and have all the free passes to park and get in and my buddy has a box that I can sit in any time but I still don't go. This Saturday will be my first time of the meet. As far as OTB's go www.striders.com is a Sports Bar downtown that is closest. It's a nice place but sitting there all day gets boring and expensive. I usually play California first and sometimes a late P5 at one of the other major tracks. The food and bar tab usually runs somewhere between $100 and $300 depending on how many of my friends are there and how much I drink.

You asked me a question and I gave you an answer so what's your theory?

No theory here. I was just reacting to a comment that the economy was the factor that increased handle. I think your answer is probably a similar answer to what many others would give regarding the shift as to where people are betting.

First attempt to play Del Mar all season and did well. Hitting the late pick 4 at the Spa twice gave me a few bucks to risk. Hit this one pretty good:

Great card yesterday, prices galore as well.

Todays is super solid as well.

Pick 5 carryover and I will make a small play.

Del Mar has been by far the meet to play this year between Toga/Mar.

Tough year for 'Toga with all the rain and crap weather. Reality is, that is the beauty of Del Mar. It is 75 to 85 EVERY SINGLE DAY. Ever. And almost never rains.

But live attendance has been pretty terrible. They announced 20,000 for the Pacific Classic-- I got there 30 minutes before first post and parked a 3 minute walk from the track. The apron was sparsely populated and the infield was empty.

I highly doubt in the future attendance figures are going to mean much. Heck it wont be long until an empty casino will not mean much to MGM, just means more people are using their phones.
