Horse racing without whip

Hey guys,

today i read an articel at sportingpost.co.za about tendencies in the UK and in South Africa to run horse races without whips in the future.

Now I would like to get some opinions about it. What do you think?
I think it's a good idea and horse racing can work pretty well without using whips.

Not that I care for jockey Kent D. but I will agree with him that today's whip is much weaker than the ones they used back in the day and still sell today

But to answer the question, I would limit the whip for when a horse needs the whip. As in bearing out, acting up, etc. and not to go faster down the stretch.

In my honest opinion, I think whips SHOULD be banned for several reasons

1) jockeys are always whipping the horses even if they are not winning
2) whipping can cause injuries to the horse
3) the whip use is different from jockey to jockey
4) it’s just overall cruel

I think that if they are going to continue, that they should only have a select number of whip taps (like 10 to 15 in race)

Plus every gate crew has a “whip man” and usually if the horse does not load properly, then the guy would whip the horse until he gets in the gate. The camera is always turned away so the fans don’t see it on tv.

Horse racing is not for the faint of heart in my opinion. I'm in favor of the whip. If the whip is deemed too cruel then racing horses in general is probably cruel.
