New NFL Rule

the NFL has decided to allow challenges to pass interference even if no flag is thrown.

I like this decision. I just wish the refs could make their final determination a lot quicker.

they're way too slow - so boring waiting for them

Yeah, I agree. They should be given no more than a minute to decide. If you look at the play that cost the Saints the game, it was blatant. On review, they could have called a penalty on that right away. If it's not obvious, they shouldn't make any changes, anyway. This is where the NFL screws these things up. If it's not obvious, leave it alone.

It's going to make the game impossible to watch. I hope they never mess with Red Zone. But you know they will.

It's almost as impossible to watch now.
I've been in relationships shorter than most games.
At my age, when they go into OT, it's interactive for me!

Good rule if you don't mind every other pass play reviewed. If however the review is included in the 2 challenges allowed to each coach it wouldn't matter.
Btw, why not holding challenges...or any other penalty? Any could determine a game's outcome. Often a lines judge doesn't mark the ball where teams feel it should be...should this warrant a challenge also? What about clock management? Those few seconds on various plays add up over the course of the game. Unless all is included in the 2 allowed challenges, I think its bullshit.

The roughing the QB penalty should be addressed even before the PI, since it is by far the easiest to review and only the PI has a greater penalty as a spot foul.

I've seen just as many horrible roughing calls in the NFL recently, that affect games and are as bad or worse than the horrible PI calls.

If you only give a coach 2 challenges, then I don't know why everything can't be challenged. Or give them 3 challenges and no automatic reviews in the last two minutes.

Bad idea by the league. Completely reactive, based on the non call in the New Orleans/Rams game.

Mark my words. To make up for the instant-replay delays that this new rule will create...the TV commercials will be shown on a split-screen...while the game still goes on. Otherwise...the commercial breaks coupled with the instant-replay delays will make the game TOTALLY unwatchable for the TV audience.

love the idea

however,

NFL must now define the rule.

It's like horse racing when you have horses lugging around, or jockeys herd in the lane and there is an inquiry or objection... Flip a coin!

except in the NFL, - the issue is not incompetence of the judgment, but often the interests of the league.

Say for example the Patriots or the Steelers are having a slow start to their season, and they need to begin to secure some sort of playoff-related position, and they are playing one of the sparring-partner-teams (say the Jets or the Browns...),... then the definitions(and timing) of the rules for penalties (lets say stuff like holding or pass interference) are fluid, and can adapt/evolve as necessary to the situation.

Put 'em up on a big sign in the middle of the screen while we wait!
Maybe show a quick replay or two in the window preceding the sponsored brands.
