Actually not a suprise in any way. They play Rugby Seven's at the Olympics, which is seven players on a side rather than normal fifteen. This is a specialist and rather difficult but exciting form of Rugby. Fiji are one of the very best exponents of this in the world, probably only second to New Zealand. They won the gold medal in Rio in 2016, they won the seven's World Cup in 97 and 2005 and the seven's world series four times this century (2nd numerous times).
