Novak
What a day for Novak, wins major number 20 to catch Rafa and Roger, Wimbledon #6, and now only the US Open away from a Grand Slam. IMO definitely the greatest of the greats.

He’s my favorite.
Seems to get stronger as the match goes on.

What is it about tennis that the top talent is usually concentrated in only 2 or 3 guys for very long (in terms of sports) periods of time, and everyone else is just a role player? Three guys have 60 majors?
It's not a complaint, just an observation. Even in the Jack and Tiger eras, golf has had 1000-percent more parity; not that the sports themselves are all that comparable, but they both have four majors a year that have large fields of top talent.

It is only these three guys though. There has never been anything like this before. Before this group, the leader was Pete Sampras with 14.
These guys are all so dominant it is scary to think how many they would have if even one of the other guys wasn't around. Federer has 10 losses in major finals to the other two, Nadal eight, Novak six. I'm sure there have been other losses to each other in semis as well.
There may have been a time when three others ruled the game like this for short stretches, but these guys have been winning majors for 18 years! Unfortunately Roger is probably done, and Rafa is getting there but maybe has a couple more in him. No telling with Novak, five more maybe? But you never know when father time will hit and it usually happens fast.

That's why it seems like forever. Toss in a little Serena and you get another 20-something majors. It just seems like once a really good player gets to the top, they reside there for a while. You mentioned Pete...I was also thinking of Lendl...Borg and Connors 40 years ago (I still remember some of those epic matches)...Martina, Evert...dominance, over time. A complete list of historical greats would include Laver, Budge, Tilden, Court and King, for sustained greatness, too, but I didn't have to go back that far to make my observation.

I think Novak has to be considered the best ever at this point. He is also better in head to head matches with both Federer and Nadal.
