That's the exact thing I am designing the Database version to do. Trying to make it a more robust program yet keep it simple to operate.

They in fact could be so bad that their particular number for a factor should be no more than say a 30. You are effectively giving that horse a 50% artificial boost it didn't earn. So in a a race with 5 horses the worst horse has a 20% chance of winning, just because he only has to beat 4 other horses. But by giving him the protection of a normalized floor figure, you are saying he has a better chance than what reality gives him just due to the field size. Hope that makes sense.

I already proved ...Post #1418.....that scaling matters

Progress report.

Just dropped in to let everyone know how things are coming along with version 13. Adding some color in so not so bland. Doing this mostly for me I think...

Am able to open the program and build analysts...Unlimited actually now. When user puts in race date to handicap, program now loads extremely fast. Loaded 17 tracks from 8-13 in a milli second. Instead of the 20 seconds ver 12 takes to load them.

I'm getting very excited about ver 13. But still have a lot of work still to do.

Handi

P.S. I hope there are still people using Handifast by the time I get the update done. Oh and it will really be worth the money..... FREE!!! LOL

Acorn,

I've got to say that I agree with you.

On top of all that, Handiman is determined to improve his programming skills. He's shifted gears towards better database design, modular programming, and leaving the old, dead world of top-down program design.

IOW, he's switching from being an amateur to a professional programmer.

It's pretty impressive to watch.

This is especially true considering that he's been pretty much down for the count twice in the last year and a half.

GO Handiman!

Awesome. Do you use the FAST fig in your object? Thinking of doing away with it, as my research says it's a weak factor these days. That's over 1400 race cards checked.

No I'm not currently using the FAST fig in my analysts. I've used the FAST fig in the past but I seem to do better without it at my favorite tracks.

Considering how much fun and rewarding it can be to experiment with different factor combinations and values, I'm continually amazed that Handifast is available for donations or free. Awesome!

By the way, I'm doing well with Handifast again at Golden Gate today.

My picks are posted in the Selections area of the forum. So far after 5 races, I've hit 3 winners for a return of $18.40 on $10 invested for an R.O.I. of 184%.

Three races yet to go.

Handi, I'm intrigued by your ideas for a database in the upcoming Handifast Platinum.

I really like your idea of an auto mode that will find races in the database similar to the race currently being handicapped and automatically build an appropriate factor set. I think the neat trick in doing this is using the database to find the best factor set for each type of race without heavily engaging in the dubious concept of back fitting.

And I agree that adding color to the software to improve it's bland look would be a worthwhile improvement. I often spend so much time looking at the software that I'm sure a more attractive look would be easier on my eyes and just simply make the user feel better. That's my two cents anyway.

I'm wondering if your plans for Handifast Version 13 Platinum might allow users to quickly test their favorite analysts with all the race cards in the database? I assume that would require a ton of fairly high level programming so I understand if it's unrealistic.

Thanks again for all your hard work!
