Supposed to be sunny and 70 now on Saturday? Huh.

Gonna lighten up the plays today if the track is wet, and spend more time 'capping Saturday's card instead.

Whoops. I think I was looking at Sunday's forecast earlier. D'oh!

Friday is a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon, temps in 60s. My official guess is muddy main for most of the card, good to soft on the turf.

Saturday looks like a chance of showers, but not heavy, temps in 60s. My official guess is drying out main track, good to fast, turf good to firm.

Rain looks to be done by Saturday morning. Sounds like the track bias might evolve a little as it dries out, but should be fast for the Derby. If anything, I wonder if off track stats will get overbet.

Many tracks award a "star" to any horse that runs in a race originally carded to be run on turf if the race is taken off the turf.

I say that such a "star" should be awarded to all horses that run on a track that is listed as muddy or sloppy, even if the race was always going to be run on the dirt.

Betcha that will result in larger field sizes.

Pass, especially with young horses with little experience. There's a lot more tracks out there to look at. If you can't find anything else that looks good today, you now have a head start on the next day after that.

Didn't they do something like that on the old racing forms -they added a star next to the name if it won or finished ITM on a track other than fast or if it was bred to be a "mudder"?
