I came across a web site that links to a number of articles about playing those 2 tracks. I haven't read most of it yet, and have no idea who these people are. Looks interesting, and comments appreciated.

A man's got to know his limitations. -- Dirty Harry
Just read the Salvatore trainer angles for Saratoga and here are a couple of crazy ones,
Pletcher over the last 5 years for two year old first timers when bet odds on and originally scheduled for the dirt are 15 starts with 14 wins and 1 third! You can pretty much bet the house, if so inclined, on these types.
Mott on the other hand is abysmal with two year old firsters, 0 for 98 since 2008. I know he usually wins one on his birthday so maybe he should look to that day to break the goose egg this year.
Combining Del Mar with other tracks can be challenging, because Del Mar's post times tend to be all over the place.
This young meet:
Day 1 - Growing gap between program and actual post times. Later races off 15-20 minutes later than times on program. Traditional 'Del Mar'.
Day 2 - Sharp improvement. Races off no more than 2-3 minutes from times on program. Surprised to see they didn't even wait to allow a few more minutes for the race that kicked off the pick six, which had a carryover. (standard practice at SA).
Day 3 - Races off by slowly increasing amounts, up to around 6 minutes from time on program. Still not bad by the track's standard.
So they may be improving. I wouldn't mind if Del Mar was a little less circus-sy. Somehow I have this crazy idea that peaceful sleep would be better for the horses than loud rock concerts.
My only complaint so far is that the chicklets/positions for Del Mar have been totally whacko in some races....not sure what's going on there, but I know that's happened at other tracks before....
