Gun grabbers in action

A bipartisan bill in Congress aimed at bump stocks could have much wider impacts on gun owners. The bill was introduced by two Congressmen, one GOP and one Dem, and has 10 co-sponsors, 5 GOP and 5 Dems.

The bill does not address bump stocks by name, but would make it illegal to "manufacture, possess, or transfer any part or combination of parts that is designed to increase the rate of fire of a semi-automatic rifle". Clearly this would affect many more things than bump stocks, including such things as buffer springs or adjustments to trigger pressure.

Some argue that the bill as written could effectively outlaw semi-automatic weapons. Worse, the bill has no grandfather provisions for existing gun owners. It would make owning previously modified weapons illegal.

And suspicious minds, like myself, suspect that the gun grabbers will go nuts adding more anti-gun amendments to the bill.

From FBI stats:

Knives kill 5 times more people each year in U.S. than rifles of all kinds

Once Great Britain implemented firearms prohibitions the murder rate by knives skyrocketed. So, of course, GB now has knife control, which isn't working either.

What an obvious solution... Ban knives, then beheading by terrorist groups would instantly stop. Where have I seen that logic before.

"Common sense" gun control measures like banning bump stocks, high capacity magazines, extended background checks, etc., can't really come about without sacrificing some measure of gun rights and/or personal liberty. And history shows how difficult it is to regain rights, of any sort, when they're lost. In many ways these types of measures are a replacement of the more difficult tasks of enforcing laws pertaining to personal accountability. So we all suffer, instead of just the guilty, and the laws of unintended consequences come into play.

There's nothing "common sense" about how new laws get implemented.

Common sense would show that none of those things have ever been effective, and never will be. The major evil of the day is the bump stock. There are many ways to bump fire a semi-automatic rifle, and some of them require no modification to the weapon. There are tons of videos on YouTube video showing how to bump fire a standard semi-automatic rifle using the belt loop on your jeans or other methods.

Bans on high capacity magazines are pointless. That's like thinking you can cut down on speeding and highway deaths by banning engines over a given horsepower. The Assault Weapons Ban of 1994 was totally futile regarding hi-cap mags, except to drive the price up.

Extended background checks would also do nothing. Over 90% of gun crimes are committed by people who got their guns illegally, avoiding background checks. And most mass shootings were done by people who passed background checks.

I will never understand people that want to completely ignore the person and go after the weapon. Then they go after the wrong weapon....the bullet actually does the damage in most cases and isn't covered under the Constitution. Just another BrainFart. It's early

That woman is dumber than a pile of rocks.

Let's say I am a gun control advocate. The last thing in the world I would anyone to know is that I am hoping to slowly ban more or more types of guns over time. That's the very thing that prevents any progress from being made. The gun advocates are afraid that if they give an inch, it will eventually become a yard. So to come out and say that's what you are hoping happens is ridiculously foolish.
