Cohen got 2 months for lying to congress, he was guilty of that crime in Virginia and sentenced for it in South New York. he got 3 years for income tax infractions, something he was never going to beat. but he was always going to get the same amount of time whether he pled or got convicted.
for him to get a departure from his sentence he is going to have to come up with more goods. some maybe against the president, while most of it must be to throw other friends of his or family under the bus.
from what i have seen so far, there isn't enough to start impeachment hearings against Trump. there may be more to follow. if there isn't, we as taxpayers just ripped up about $20 million now for no reason. my guess is that there is some criminal stuff that won't come up now against Trump and they will get him in another 2 years after he leaves office. but i am just guessing, just like the guy that wrote your article.
