1m316 at Saratoga, why ?

To my knowledge they haven't run this distance on dirt in at least 2yrs.

Why now?
This will not be an race easy to make figures for

Would love to see more races at 1 3/16m, 1 1/4m, 1 5/16m, and 1 3/8m on the main track. The races at 1 1/8m create a great fan crush to see the starts, but the shorter run to the turn creates more angst than needed. Encouraged to see the racing office looking at these types of alternatives.

It is an odd distance to be sure. How about making pace/speed figures for a flat mile, a which seems to be in vogue these days. I liked it better when they raced at seven furlongs or nine furlongs (for making figures) when races were taken off the turf.

I see your point.
Just hope that this wasn't a one time or very rare thing as it throws a monkey wrench into my figure making

If they're gonna do it, then I hope they do it more often.

I hear you, but there really shouldn't be much difference between 1 1/8 and 1 3/16 when it comes to figure making.
