Stan Mikita

Blackhawks all-time leading scorer Stan Mikita dies

Stan Mikita, a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame and the leading scorer in Chicago Blackhawks history, died Tuesday at age 78, according to a statement from his family.

Mikita played 1,396 games in the NHL from 1958 to 1980, all of them with the Blackhawks, to lead the franchise in that category. He won the Stanley Cup with Chicago in 1961.

Was a big hockey fan back in high school/college days in NY when there were only six teams. Was a denizen of the "cheap seats" - side balcony at the OLD MSG on 50th St. - for $.50 with a GO card you could almost see a hockey game through the clouds of blue cigar smoke from up there.

RIP, Stan Mikita - with Bobby Hull and Glenn Hall in goal, the Rangers always had their hands full.

That's right.

I was a Blackhawks fan as a kid in the 60s.
Bobby and Dennis Hull, Stan Mikita - good memories - great hockey players.

The very first hockey game I went to was in 1962 or 63. I was a kid. It was between Christmas and New Year's and all the Catholic schools were off. The Rangers and Knicks actually played games during the day during this holiday week!

Well, somehow we got tickets to see the Rangers at the Garden. The Black Hawks were great then with Hull and Mikita and many other future legends; the Rangers were not, but improving with our own stars such as Andy Bathgate, Rod Gilbert, Vic Hadfield and a few others.

Glenn Hall vs. Gump Worsley in goal. I remember both played outstanding in goal that day.

Stan Mikita
scored a goal, and I believe, so did the late Pierre Pilote, who wasn't known for scoring being one the NHL's all-time great defensemen.

Don Marshall scored for the Rangers and we lost 2-1.

Despite this heartbreak, I became a huge Stan Mikita fan and the Black Hawks became my second favorite team. I remember it as well as the very first baseball game I attended.

RIP
to an NHL legend and Hall of Famer, Stan Mikita.

Phil Esposito, played Center for the Boston Bruins, he scored A lot of Goals.

As they used to say in Boston. Jesus Saves, and Esposito Scores on the Rebound!

Wayne Cashman, Johnny Bucky, # 4 Bobby Orr! Derek Sanderson.

Bobby Hull top 5 all time greatest , and Chicago a great hockey town.

Couldn't stand the Blackhawks, but I liked Mikita. Keith Magnuson was my #1 target of sports dislike in the 1960s, early 70s. He alone had me hate the Hawks (that and the fact Dallas was their chl farm team. Living in ft worth at the time, which had the red wings chl team, I had a natural dislike for the Blackhawks,...but Mikita and Hull were great talents. Hard to digest these childhood era stars of mine are dying off by the week.
