A huge topic but here is a brief rundown. Firstly the vast majority of business leaders want to stay in because of trade benefits and also nearly all unions want to stay because of the protections given to workers. Not often business and unions are in agreement.

Trade. Being in means we have easy access to one of the worlds largest markets for free. No tariffs, quotas etc. 50% of our exports go to EU countries. If we are out we will likely have tariffs, quotas etc which will hit business hard bringing unemployment. Foreign investment in the UK will go down because of this as the foreign companies will want to base themselves abroad. We have one of the biggest car plants in Europe here owned by Nissan. Will they want to stay?If we leave we will have to leave the common agricultural policy which will hit our farmers in a big way. We will have to renegotiate trade deals with other countries without the clout of being in a market of 500 million people. Leaving the EU will mean we still have to follow their rules but will have no say in forming them.

Security. We may not have the benefit of as close cross border intelligence on things such as crime and terrorism.

Freedom of movement. We have the right to travel in the EU freely, live, work and retire there. This will go. Approximately 2m UK citizens live in the EU.

Workers rights. EU laws have brought great rights to workers in the UK. You cannot be forced to work more than an average of 48 hours per week. There are laws which give guaranteed maternity rights, right to have a minimum of four weeks holiday a year although in the UK we do have a right to 5.6 weeks paid holiday, breaks and length of working day. Rights to guarantee your terms and conditions and previous contract if your company changes hands. Many of these could go.

Nearly all economic organisations, business organisations and banks are predicting a hit to our economy which will make us worse of as well as a cost of living increase as prices will rise.

Ah yes.....back to the days when Britain ruled the waves.
Now they can sail on long journeys to check up on Gibraltar and the Falklands.

Bend over and.......

UK is not in a position to bargain anymore.
In other words, they are royally screwed.

May has kept her position as PM because no one else wants it.
If it were the slightest bit desirable, she would have been ousted long ago.

This has all been brought about by anti-immigration, isolationists, getting
to the polls in bigger numbers. Much of the country thought it could never
happen, so why bother voting? If another election was held on the same
topic, there is little doubt that Britain would remain in EU for years to come.
That won't happen now - nor should it. They will get what's coming to them.

Amazing how an apathetic electorate can get run over by a mob.
Reminds me of Nov 2016 in the US, popular vote aside.

Do you mean like how the 'smartest' knew it could never happen so didn't bother to vote?

Just like a lot of Brits some of us vastly overestimated the intelligence of the electorate.

The fact you're still calling me a liberal is hilarious.

Libertarian tendencies.

I have to be an independent now... Biden is the most conservative option out of both parties for 2020.
