best substitute announcer ever Larry Collmus back at work at Del Mar

In case you are wondering, Trevor suffered a herniated disc. But Del Mar is blessed with a great backup.

Larry is lucky that he gets to come back at the right time when the best races in the world are going to happen this week

Yes for the NBC broadcast but not as the official Del mar track announcer for Deman (for now)

Big fan here, but he had a couple mistakes yesterday including calling some female horses "he."

Not exactly sure how to interpret that. Is he planning retirement soon, I hope?

Back in the mid 1980s when I first started playing thoroughbreds, Trevor was the caller for S. Cal, Marshall Cassidy was the caller in NY, Tom Durkin was the voice of the Breeder's Cup, Phil Georgeff was the caller in Chicago, and John Scully called the races at my "home track", Fairmount Park.

Ah, the good old days.

Trevor isn't exactly a young guy. His skills have deteriorated, as would happen to anyone approaching 70. It isn't going to get better, only worse.

He is an icon, arguably the best caller ever and definitely in the top 3. I'm a fan, but you gotta know when to say when.

I've never heard a caller spot a winning move earlier than Trevor. Wish him well this season.

I'm surprised the woke mafia hasn't called for his head. Maybe they need to start listing the horses preferred pronouns in the program.

Yeah, I agree with you. It's emotionally difficult to see race callers you love begin to struggle as they age. And it's difficult to watch some of them hang on and call races for several seasons past when they should have quit.

What's even worse is when this happens with race callers you don't like. There's a few retired ones I cheered on into retirement, and there's a few active ones I'm looking forward to the day they hang up the binoculars. Trevor isn't in that group though.
