Does anyone else hide Easter baskets?

In my childhood it was so fun waking up every Easter and look for my basket. That has carried over and last night my sisters were mentioning how they had to go home and hide the baskets for their kids. Someone overheard us and said they never heard of anyone hiding easter baskets. We thought it was funny and then we asked about 10 people and no one else hides them either. Are we alone in this? We thought everyone hid Easter baskets.

My wife and I hid the Easter baskets for our kids for years. We thought everyone did. We also hid eggs in the back yard as well.

Overheard on the White House lawn this morning....."No, no, Sasha, that isn't an egg!"

It is easier now, at my age.
I don't have to color eggs anymore....like today, I looked for my car keys for two hours.

My parents hard boiled and colored eggs.After we went to sleep they hid them and in the morning the search would begin. My wife and I carried on the tradition with our kids.

We turned every Easter into a scavenger hunt. Here is what we did:

1. We started with a puzzle. Pieces were relatively large.

2. We also had about a dozen plastic eggs for each child. Each child had their own color of egg.

3. We assembled the puzzle, then turned it over and wrote clues to where we hid the eggs on the back.

4. The puzzle was broken apart and the pieces to the puzzle were put into the eggs.

5. The eggs were hidden.

(Obviously, the above steps were done clandestinely.)

6. Once all eggs were found and the puzzle re-assembled a cash prize was shared between all participants.

7. Everyone was forced to work together but you could only find your own eggs.


The toughest part was coordinating the easier eggs with the easier clues.

My kids enjoyed this game so much that in some of their teenage years they asked if they could bring friends over to join the hunt. It became a pretty big annual event for us. We actually had to find some bigger puzzles and very strange colors of eggs to accommodate the demand.

My wife, Angela, used to play an Easter game with our kids from around the time they were 4 or 5.
It was called "Easter Magic".
Even today at dinner, my 15 and 17 year old chuckled about being hoodwinked by it. They loved it at the time, though.

We hid eggs like everyone else. Easter Magic was a little different, though.

The kids were told that only on Easter could this trick work.
You go outside the night before to a convenient planter bed (which hopefully is thawed out enough) and plant some jelly beans - just a few.

When the kids awoke the next morning they searched for their eggs, and found their baskets. They then headed outside to their newly planted beans and, lo and behold, brightly colored lollipops had grown out of the soil.
We all got a kick out of Easter Magic!

No more kids around. The beauty of age is that I can hide the eggs and then try to find them. I bought a movie a couple of years ago and it's nice that I haven't had to buy another one yet.

i hid the easter baskets too, but on another note, i went to the otb at favorites on saturday and hung out there all day with my clocker friend from monmouth. i actually had a great time there. the place was nice and the food great. the place was packed too, they must have had a few thousand people there.
