Ralph,

Take heart in what I heard in some speech somewhere: It's going to pay for what made this country great --- handouts.

You can't just look at income tax. Less than 50% of fed revenues come from income taxes.

Lower incomes pay a greater proportion of their incomes in other taxes (payroll, sales, gas, etc.). Overall, most people pay around 40% in all the various taxes.

Why so glum chum? Is it because CNN Money has disproved one of your cherished conservative myths. The is a difference between 45% don't owe U.S. income tax and 45% don't pay U.S. income tax. The first means that at the end of the year you have met your tax obligation through your payroll deductions. The second means that you had no obligations to begin with. The first is true. The second is false.

Every job I had I was required to fill out a W-4 form to authorize deductions from my paycheck to pay my income taxes. In my case I always claimed zero
exemptions because I liked getting a refund. When I was working my largest refund was around $500. My total deductions for the year were far, far in excess of that. Yet the conservatives would say that I had no tax liability, that I got money back from the government.

Everyone who works fills out a W-4. Everyone who works has money deducted from their paycheck and sent to Uncle Sam. There are deductions for children and for other things which can reduce your taxes, but the rich get far more deductions and credits than the poor.

Just another conservative myth which they so willingly cling to.

No, it's more like you blatantly ignoring this.

Read it and weep it, sweetheart. Line 3. Eliminating the 28, 33, and 35% brackets would cost $1,079.4B. Just to remind you, a thousand billion is a trillion.
The new high bracket would be 25%. This means that a person making $100 million a year would be paying the same rate as a person making $34,500 a year. Of course you think that is fair. Its not.
My only caveat is that I should have said "helps millionaires and some others, but mostly millionaires."

Anyone with any level of honesty would abandon the nonsensical $1T part of your idiotic stats. I understand that is asking way too much of you.

Anyone with any level of commonsense would know that what I said was essentially correct. I also notice that you have not disagreed with my contention that saying 45% pay no taxes is untrue.

I'll keep your little secret about "caveats" & "essentially correct" and all the other terms of your points flailing at some sort of twisted logic you use to make hyperbolic points.

Why would I give a rats ass what nomenclature you want to use to say almost 50% owe nothing in taxes and get a lion's share of benefits?

Try this. I buy a car. I pay cash. I owe nothing. Does not mean I paid nothing.
Never mind. Too complex for you.

That's the whole point. If you paid your taxes, you don't owe for your taxes.

I'm dense?

I do not know. Certainly there are some, but nowhere near 50%.
Also it is distributed among all economic classes.
