Durkin did a lot of homework before the race call. When Cigar won, Durkin had already written down what he would say. He knew a lot about the horses he was calling.

It was unfortunate that his anxiety and panic attacks got the best of him. It's a stressful job made worse by people expecting perfection. An announcer calls the wrong number or misses a horse and all his good work is cast aside. Obviously he still has some gas left in the tank since he's still working.

What made Trevor superb was his knowledge of a horse's looks and actions before a race. Plus at the top of his game he was unparalleled at picking up action behind the leaders.

Between Durkin and Denman you have a complete list of the great race callers in the last quarter century.

Unfortunately, you only get 39 days of racing a year at Arapahoe. Then you have to go to your other job, whatever that is. Maybe you can take a page out of Durkin's book and start doing voice work in your off season.
Durkin could do Greek tragedy, stage acting. I could only do phantom race calls in bars for free beer and wings. Which, by the way, I have done.

Durkin ten best was the best thing TVG has ever done.

I damn sure miss some of those horses and the fact that they didn’t sit fractions of 50: and try to win in the stretch only.

Some great horses in there too

He didn't call the race with Abel Tasman, just an FYI.
