BC Dirt Mile

Of note, this year's BC Dirt Mile will have a 210 foot run up, and the actual distance will be 1M 70 yards.

The actual distance will NOT be 1 mile and 70 yards.

The actual distance of the race, which is the timed portion of the race, will be one mile. The untimed portion of the race will be 210 feet.

In 2021 at Del Mar, the untimed portion of the race was 200 feet so there is virtually no difference.

Same at Santa Anita, but that doesn't mean they aren't actually running significantly more than a mile.

For me, the official distance is the timed distance, which will be one mile with a flying start. The actual distance ran is the timed distance plus the run up. These things really do matter when you make speed figures.

Really matters when you have a bet on the leader all the way getting nipped
gasping home. You bet a mile, he leads for a mile and 69 yards, 35-1/2 inches and you get nothing.

Maybe that horse should have run in the BC Sprint instead of the Dirt Mile that everyone hates.

The Spriny, how long is the run up?
Maybe the Sprint is 7 furlongs?

They run the Dirt Mile to boost resumes of prospective stallions. There is a reason that it is called the Breeders Cup.

I'm not sure about 6F, but "about 7F" at KEE gives me stomach problems.

At least they tell you how far it really is, not including run up of course.

I see in the past performances of a 7 Furlong race that it says "Abt 7 Furlongs Beard" So is that a chute?

I guess that is just the same thing as races carded for 4 1/2 furlongs called the "Headley Course" right?

I'm probably wrong just wanted to clarify

It is the same chute they use for 6.5 and 7f, just run longer. It is 7f, 184 feet. It works out to ~7.28, so it really isn't about 7f.

Anyone have a clue why they run bth "7" furlong distances?
I understand looking for logic in horse racing can't end well, but......

I see no reason to run ~7f anymore since Kee now runs at the 1m distance, but I guess everyone runs those 1/2f distances like 5.5f, 6.5f, 1m16, and 1m316.
