Texas Lemonade Stands
Police in Texas will no longer be able to shut down children's lemonade stands.
Quote:
On Monday, Gov. Greg Abbott signed House Bill 234, which legalizes the sale of nonalcoholic drink stands operated by minors on private property. State Rep. Matt Krause, a Republican, introduced the bill after hearing about a lemonade stand that was shut down in East Texas after its two young operators did not have the proper permit.

It is good that police can't shut down kids' lemonade stands in Texas, but it is sad that a bill had to be passed to prevent the police from shutting them down!

Makes one wonder just what total morons we are putting into public office.

One block from my house, a girl has run a lemonade and tea stand from her parents front yard for years. No local police have ever done anything beyond buy a cup from her and chat. The story smells. Has to be more to it.
On Tuesday we teach chess in a suburb north of DFW airport, we pass no less than a dozen lemonade stands run by kids. Pretty common happening here in the summer months.

Back in my day younger kids sold lemonade or sacked groceries.
Older kids mowed lawns and tossed papers.
When we got into high school it was wheat harvest.
Do kids still do these things?

The cops closed the lemonade stands because fartheaded neighbors and business owners called to complain and the cops had to enforce the law.
Now that the law allows lemonade stands the cops will no longer have to shut them done.

This entire law was written due to a couple of events in 2015.
Cops shut down some lemonade stands in Ft. Worth if my memory serves me right.
I believe it pissed off the local rep

Nightmare maybe? The regulations are terrible. And costly.
