So you're saying the 60+ members of BOTH teams who were somber or visibly distraught over Hamlin's condition on Monday evening were all acting out of narcissism.

Amazing that nobody came this close to death in a game before so there is no precedent.
Bringing it closer to horse racing, when a jock is killed on the track, I recall races are always cancelled for the day.

Agreed. Society looks a lot different even from when I grew up 25 years ago. But as you said, a person's life and the possibility of losing said life--for a game--is serious.
Football isn't a scenario like trying to hold the Nazis or Viet Cong at bay.
There's an astronomical gap between "safe zones and correct pronouns" vs. respecting a human being who almost died along with the wishes of those who watched him almost die.

Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin has shown what physicians treating him are calling “r emarkable improvement over the past 24 hours”, the team announced Thursday, three days after the player went into cardiac arrest and had to be resuscitated on the field.
“While still critically ill, he has demonstrated that he appears to be neurologically intact,” the Bills said in a statement. “His lungs continue to heal and he is making steady progress.”

His uncle had said there was some lung damage, and that he had to be resuscitated again at the hospital. Hamlin is receiving 50% oxygen support, vs. 100% initially.

After Damar Hamlin woke up in ICU...he asked for a pen and paper and scribbled inquiring about who won the game.

I hope remembering he was playing in a game means his brain function is 100%.
