in the hill prince on saturday,i was wondering why their was no final time for lucullans last race in which they had published the fractions up to the 3/4 mark but ommitted the final time for a mile, anyone have any idea why this happened?you would think the clocker for the form could have timed it off a replay.

I believe this is another case were there were serious timing issues and they did not have the data to make a figure.

If the technology to time Olympic events to the nearest thousandth of a second with dead on balls accuracy exists, the industry should embrace it, price be damned. If racetracks refuses to upgrade their timing mechanisms due to cost or just plain stubborness (after all, many of the old timers could give a hoot! ), then the AGSC should strip graded status from that track's graded stakes. Reality is that the industry needs to work collectively to make this happen.
I think the run-up is the least of the sport's timing problems, because it is so well established.

But look, one of my other favorite sports is track and field. And 25 years ago, there were plenty of problems with automatic timers. But not now. They figured it out and the modern timers are incredibly reliable. And they basically work the same way that horse racing timers do.

If trakus is this unreliable, than how about using beam and photo timing as a backup? It's not that expensive-- many tracks still use it. And it's pretty accurate. Hand times from the press box should be an absolute last resort, because they aren't very accurate.

I was talking about the industry in general, not just Trakus, which not many tracks have.

When it comes to Trakus it is a huge problem, probably the biggest one they have. It causes a lot of their issues. Not the fact that there is run up, but that they don't handle it very well.

Cj's posts might be the last form of "investigative reporting" that we have left in this game.

Don't feel bad guys, it doesn't work on the other side of the planet in Hong Kong either. Have an account with Trakus and may go to their website once a month now. You call them and you MIGHT get someone to return a phone call three days later. Sad.

The good news is that in Hong Kong they know it so it isn't used as the official timer. In the US it is at many tracks, including some major circuits.

The "industry" as been nothing more than a total joke for many years now. You have to be desperate to consider it legitimate. For God's sake, high school swim team do a better job.

Response from CHRB, didn't even bother to figure out the screenshots were from R6, not R1 or R7.

Great response. I am so glad that horse racing pays someone to use a stopwatch in 2017. The track has been in the same location for how long now? Yet you can't figure a way to time a race by any other means. Maybe you should use part of your high takeout to move timing into the 19th Century.

CHRB.....Certifiable morons!

Hey, we only mis-timed 6 races last week - that's what, about 1%?

If a guy with a stopwatch can override Trakus...then, why use Trakus at ALL?
